Now that I have decided not to purchase TT6 what I would like to know is whether the American maps on the Tomtom site are compatable with TT5 software?

the answer is two-pronged.
1. yes, some of the older maps (pre-650) are compatible
2. yes, some of the newer maps (660 ff) are/will be compatible
So basically only 650/652 are not really ok, the rest works fine. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the quick relpy Lutz. Which now begs the question how do I know which version maps I will be receiving?
I am travelling to California next April and I intend to download maps in January when I shall also book all the tickets, how do I know that TomTom haven't upgraded the maps for compatability for TT6 and not care whether they work for TT5 users?

Howard,
Last year I bought TT Nav5 with Western Europe maps all on CDs as well as the USA maps which came on an SD card.
We visited Florida for our first time in Sept 06 and the USA maps worked great in my Medion PPC MD 95000 / Mio 168. |

Thanks for that voyager.
But now TT6 has come out and its possible to download maps from the TomTom site I need to be assured that it's possible to download the maps and for them to work on TT5 without worrying about which version I need to download.

I, personally, (and I am not an expert,) think it will be a problem. TT6 maps will not run on my old TT5..so I've loaded TT5 and most of my maps, including portions of the US/Canada onto a large SD card..worked fine the other week when I was over there. Now back in the UK...and reverted back to TT6. |
