I'm also having trouble with the upgrade on a GO classic, but I'm starting at 5.44 and trying to load 6.52. I updated to the 5.44 version probably about a year ago and had no trouble at that time. You say you're stalling at the splash screen. By that, do you mean the screen with two red handprints? I'm getting past that and stalling at the legal notice screen. The touch screen is dead and won't let me proceed past the notice. After about 20 seconds, it reboots and tries again. Fortunately, I backed up my 5.44 version and can revert back to a working state.
Tomtom sent these instructions which didn't help.
---------------------------------
Please take the following steps to solve your problem.
- Start Tom Tom Home, go to file and open preferences, there will be a list shown with file locations
- copy and paste the line at where it says 'downloads' ( it looks similar to this: C:\Documents and Settings\cehe\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\ )
- go to the start menu of the pc and open the RUN box, paste the text and then press OK. This will open a new window.
- in the new window delete ALL folders part from: Download Cache, Navigator Dlls and Tab Icons
Now connect your Go to the pc and do the update again thru the HOME programm.
If this does not solve your problem, please contact our customer support by phone 08451610009.
--------------------------------
I'm not looking forward to an international phone call to get this cleared up, so I'll probably stick with the version I've got.

Just leave it for a while and it will sort itself out.

If you want to do it manually (without HOME) the Zip File is on my WebSpace Updates Page. 8) _________________ Richard

I'm in the US, so the number provided is an international call for me. Fortunately they were able to provide me with a toll free US number when I updated my question.
Thanks for the tip to be patient and let it do its thing for awhile. I'll plug it into the mains and let it go for awhile to see what happens. |

Allowing multiple reboots didn't help my problem with 6.52 not booting.
I spoke with US tech support today by phone regarding this problem. "Debbie" suggested that after loading the 6.52 software, I should perform a hardware reset using the reset button on the bottom of the unit. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but hopefully that will help.
At first, she didn't think 6.52 was meant for the Go classic, but did some checking and found that it is, in fact usable on that model. Also, she said that upgrading from 5.44 to 6.52 is an acceptable jump, but any earlier versions should first upgrade to 5.44, and then to 6.52. |

Hi Thorn. Are you attempting to upgrade your original TomTom GO SD Card? If so be sure to delete most of the vioce files (after backing up of course) to leave some working space for the new software. The problem with your GO is different from mine... I am unable to upgrade beyond 4.42 no matter what I try _________________ TT ONE v2

I specifically asked the tech rep if deleting a few files might be necessary and was told it shouldn't matter. If the software will transfer to the card, it should run. I'm getting no error messages that there's not enough room for the software to transfer completely.
That's not to say that I won't ultimately try it though if I keep having trouble. It may simply be time to switch to Garmin. Older Garmin maps of the US midwest and southern regions seem to be more up-to-date than even the most recent TomTom's on store shelves. |

Still no luck getting to 6.52 after both deleting a few files and doing a hard reset. Currently have 25MB free on my 1GB card. |

Oh dear. Ah well at least you got to 5.44 its more than I can!! I have been patiently waiting for map updates from TomTom for it seams like forever now (it's annoying to be told to turn left on the round about....second exit when the roundabout was removed 2 years ago!!) However the map with my new ONE (v660)has removed them both!! so someone somewhere is updating TomTom maps _________________ TT ONE v2

You can Download the Zip File from my WebSpace and just copy the Files across Manually with Explorer. There are 6 Files to copy and a Text File to Help.
Some have said this works for them when the HOME method doesn't! _________________ Richard
