Thanks Andy. I'd not looked at that page in the handbook for some reason and was dashing out this morning so didn't look again. However interestingly I got it working again by leaving it until the battery went flat -obviously flatter than usual without any auto shut off. The unit came back up after a few minutes charge then switching on. Seems it worked as a hard reset (same as taking the battery out) Hope this may help people who have trouble that the reset button won't cure.
