|
|
Hi,
I've downloaded the speed camera database (consolidated zip) for two months running now and each time when double-clicking the file OS X reports an Error 1 dialog, which I guess means the zip is incompatible or corrupt. When using Stuffit Expander instead, it reports a format error but then shows the decompressed folder as a .tmp folder. I can then use the files as normal.
I've tested this on three Macs, with three different browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE), all with the same result. Could your compression software be using proprietary formatting that's not truly cross-platform compatible?
I've never had a problem opening PC zip files on the Mac, until I found your cam database.

I can confirm that the zip file works fine on a unix system (HPUX) using the command line unzip program. So there is nothing strange about the zip file. |

if i remember correctly it is an issue with the file name length. try renaming the zip file to something shorter and give that a go

No problem here running OSX 10.4.8 and Firefox 2.0 (worked with 1.5 too) and Stuffit? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
I tried the filename length 'trick' but that didn't work. Besides, OS X can handle huge filenames.
At least Stuffit is letting me gain access to the files. I'll eventually stumble on a fix.

10.4.8
Stuffit Expander 11.0 (build 522)
Firefox 2.0
Safari 2.0.4
MacBook 1.83, 2 GB Ram.
Will have to test again on my G5 and see if it still happens on there. |

Finally had a chance to test this on my G5 (PPC) and sure enough the archive unzips like a good'un. I was sure it has caused problems in the past. So this is probably some form of system conflict on the MacBook. I'm not going to bother hunting that down for the sake of a problem with just PGPS zip files.
Though if I stumble on a solution, I'll post it here. _________________ Osmosis

If you do find an answer let us know as I've never been able to replicate it and as a recent convert to Macs I don't know the OS well enough yet to begin looking! _________________ Darren Griffin |
