OK I give up!! I have my mates old TomTom GO (classic) I confidently told him I would update the firmware for him. To my embarrassment I have failed!! It comes with GB v300 firmware 4.40 on an original SD Card. After deleting a few voices I am able to upgrade it to the dizzy heights of v4.42 (where the map interestingly becomes v314)then it will go no further. I am able to upgrade via TT Home to any firmware version I want BUT the TomTom device wont work and sits on the splash screen forever (until reset). Any firmware 5.0 or above does this. The sd card reads quite clearly on TT Home as upgraded to 6.52 but the device will not run. I have used various sd cards and they all work perfectly well on 4.40 or 4.42 and thats it.
Tried: Hard reset, other original SD Cards (TTONE v2/GO300) none of them work past the splash screen/ firmware only upgrades without maps. My apologies if this is an old problem. I hope someone can help or knows an old thread with the same problem. Bob _________________ TT ONE v2

Can you get back to a working state?
If so, have you tried copying everything to a bigger SD card, checking that works and THEN trying the upgrade? |

Yes I have tried that on a Kingston 512 and Integral 1.0GB High Speed and it works fine AS LONG as its firmware 4.40 or 4.42 _________________ TT ONE v2

To do an Upgrade it is usually best to take as many voices off the SD Card as possible. Also take your loaded POI's. This will give the Install Program as much memory as hopefully it will need.
Are you using the original SD Card? _________________ Richard

Thanks Oldboy I removed all voices bar Tim and the upgrade went fine. I did it on the original card and tried it afterwards in my GO 300 and it worked fine with 6.52. Stick it in the old GO Classic and its back to splash screensville Arizona!! _________________ TT ONE v2

If he's tried a 512 and a 1G card, I'd have thought it shouldn't need any of that....
I suspect the dreaded "Home"...
MacBobby, have you tried a manual update? Oldboy himself has them upto v6.52 on his websitehttp://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oldboy/TomTomUpdates/index.html |

Have you tried to upgrade the card using a card reader rather than using the Go classic? |

Yes I have The upgrades have always worked any way I do it it's just that the cards won't go past the splash screen on this particular GO Unit _________________ TT ONE v2

Sounds like a corrupt flash drive in the old Go to me if it sticks at the splash screen and you say the card's fine in a 300. |

Reply from TomTom:
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
What to do:
Connect the GO to the computer
Install the GO application by downloading the latest available update
Run the Update, BUT FIRST select Backup / Restore to back up the entire content of the SD / HDD
Install the Update March 2006 - TomTom GO 5.440
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=5.440&FID=1750
Try again
If this does not work:
Format the SD / HDD (FAT or FAT 32)
Go to Start / My Documents / TomTom GO Backup and open the latest Backup folder
Copy only the map folder (i.e. Benelux-map) back to the GO, not the entire content of the Backup folder
Install the application (latest update) again
Install a voice from the CD that came with the GO
Try again
If this still does not work:
If the customer uses his own SD card, try if the original SD card works. If this one works, the customers SD card is probably to slow.
If this problem happens or remains with the original SD card, the SD card and the GO unit probably needs to be repaired.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
OK I tried all the above to no avail..... as soon as the device gets a sniff of v5.xxx or above it freezes no matter what sd card I use. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I consider the repair route? _________________ TT ONE v2
