Could you please let me know the different symbols denoting the types of cameras that appear on the route e.g. I assume that all Gatso cameras show a Speed Limit Oval; a tripod camera for a mobile????

Depends on which hardware and database you use.
You could just open the downloaded zip file and look for yourself. The corresponding picture will have the same name as the database.
ie..
GATSO.csv will contain the GATSO locations and will display the GATSO.bmp picture... |

How come some of the formats don't include the icons? |

To be honest i have no idea. I use a Garmin i3 and all the databases seem to have icons.
Perhaps if you told us what you use then someone might answer your questions... |

However, I think PGPSW have done a sterling job, and I think if the SatNav unit supports icons, then PGPSW supply icons. |

How come some of the formats don't include the icons? |
some units don't support custom icons - you can only use pre-stored ones. eg some magellan's and older garmins are like this
