Looking for a GPS for my 2210, any1 got any ideas? looking at this http://www.haicom.com.tw/gps302.htm
its a CF GPS card, and will come with TomTom and voice. anyone got one of these?
whats GPS like on the 2210? plan to use it in car. what will I look for on a GPS card, think CF is the way to go?
also as it has no memory in I will obviously use my SD card to hold the maps, but what did older PDAs use when they used a CF GPS card, eg Casio E125?
also gonna want a car mount to hold it, any ideas?
cheers

I'd recommend going instead for the newer Haicom HI-303MMF - amongst other things, the antenna is tiltable, also you have the option of using it as a GPS mouse.
You also have the option of buying the HI-401 Bluetooth slipper to use with a HI-303 series GPS - so long as you buy one that is recent enough to have the necessary hardware mod (most HI-303 series GPSes that have the mod have a bar code on a label on the antenna section in addition to the one on the CompactFlash part - but apparently that is only a 95% guarantee of compatibility).

Well, CompactFlash is one way to go - it's the setup I'm using. These days, Bluetooth GPS may be the way to go - it doesn't command the price premium it once did. However, I'm not unhappy with my HI-303MMF (other than peeved at Haicom for having this compatibility issue between older models and the Bluetooth slipper, and communicating this issue so badly to its customers).

On models without a second memory card slot, the use of a CompactFlash GPS was not recommended.

mm sorry no nothing about GPS, just will be able to get this card (as above) for £60 inc external antenna. good deal?
only want it for car use really, so will be connected to ciggie power all the time., will be able to wire in ext ariel as well. Also gonna get TomTom with voice with it.
biggest question is really will it work with my 2210, they are not sure if it will work but don't see why not on Win Mobile 2003.
Will it do what I want? eg as a good GPS for in car use. then all I will need is a car mount as already have ciggie adapter, and will it work on Ipaq 2210 with PPC2003?
Is it a good enough GPS card to do what I want? performance wise? for this price does it seem good? of course it is second hand.
any help please find all this different jargon confusing although reading as much as I can on the site, It may only be available for about 3 more days at this price.
cheers

I'm pretty sure all Haicom CompactFlash GPSes use the Oxford Semiconductors OX16CF950 UART - if so, they should work fine on a Pocket PC 2003 device.
However, as I've not tried the HI-302, I can't give an absolute guarantee.
If you're going to get an external antenna and are happy to use that with the setup, then any problems with the angle of the antenna don't matter. The HI-303 series have the advantage of being able to tilt the antenna to the optimum angle to 'see' the GPS satellites.
There's a review of the HI-302CF here on Pocket GPS. I'm unclear precisely which version you're being offered - I'd say that the LP version was the best and the E version the worst option.
The likelihood is that any of the HI-302 cards will be perfectly adequate for what you intend to do, and they should all work with your 2210. However, I can't provide an absolute guarantee.

ok managed to get the Haicom 302E with an external antenna for around £60 (2nd hand tho) for my 2210
I emailed Haicom and they replied and said yes the 302E would work with the 2003 and the 2210, (thats all they said mine a short email) so here's hoping
I know there are better CF cards out there but for the price and the fact I will be using it in car it seems a good deal to me. I hope to be able to use the exteranl antenna, how do you run that outside? ie where willthe wire stick out of the car?
any other comments welcomed
cheers

I'd set it up and try without an external antenna. If you find you need the external antenna, it's a case of running the cable through a door rubber somewhere (unless you're mad keen to drill holes in the car).
Don't be tempted to try to feed the wiring through the sunroof - particularly if it's a powered sunroof. The mechanism (unless it's one of those really basic push the handle to open types) will chop the cable to bits.
You may find it easiest to run the cable through one of your back doors - or the boot, though what is possible depends on the cable length.

thanks for that I will try and use the CF card by itself first. I know this may be a daft question but how will I know I need to use the external antenna? will I lose directions or signal or what? ie on a mobile I can see the sig strength, what about on a GPS unit what will I look for?
do you think I got a decent deal for this, as I say its just another toy for me and I will use it in the car when travelling, thats why I didn't want to spend too much
cheers
