The gender changer is normally inverting/mirroring the wires. That may not be what you want... Just because it fits physically doesn't mean the right wires will be connected... Are you familiar with RxD and TxD ? _________________ Lutz

I'm not that familiar with the Palm - but on the Pocket PC, most serial cables are designed to be connected to a serial port on the PC to synchronise the PDA.
I suspect the same may be the case for your Palm - in which case the adapter you need should be a null modem, not just a gender changer.

As a developer of GPS software for Palm OS, I run into this situation often. It is easily solved. You are halfway there with your gender changer - you just need one more little part - a null modem.
Radio Shack sells a nice little null modem - it's very inexpensive. Plug the null modem into the gender changer and put all of that onto the end of the Palm cable. That should then attach to your GPS.
The problem is that the receive and transmit lines need to be crossed since both the Palm and GPS are expecting to be connected to a "master" type of device like a PC. |

The wiring diagram would tie ground to ground and cross transmit and receive. That's all a null modem does... |

Hi Frosty,
Did you mean you can make your Toshiba e310 work with a GPS or just the Palm?
I got an offer of an e310 at a very good price. If if can be hooked up to a GPS via a serial cables, I will take it.
Thanks |
