Hi,

The number of POI's loaded (from full to empty) makes no difference to the stability of my i3's.

Hi , i have tried to live with the latest 3.20 version , but unfortunately it does not work for me ` RECALCULATING ` long pause ..........................` RECALCULATING `longer pause , ( um ) this little gem had lost it`s shine ) . Rolled back to version 2.82 beta ( trusted )and fine again !
i really do not want to download another firmware version now , but can`t wait for new maps ( sd card ) as a lot of roads have changed since V8 .

If so this guy over here got a brand new v9 i3 just by throwing his in-warrantee v8 unit around a bit and sending it back to Garmin for a replacement! (apologies Eorafienel ) _________________ Garmin i3 gone (sold on eBay)

No need to cause any real damage to my i3. I guess all I need to do is flash it to version 3.20. That'll cause it to freeze and officially I will not be able to revert to 2.70, so after calling the helpdesk and resetting, they will have to take it back
So the question is, how long did it take for Garmin to return the unit? |

I have beenn running the latest i3 FW update 3.2 on two streetpilot i3's for about 6 weeks now and have not encountered any problems.
I have the units set to 3D mapping and do not use any external aerials.
Both i3's have the software built in, and there are no external memory cards.
Garmin have certainly come up trumps with this latest firmware release as far as I am concerned.

Sadly it seems that Garmin have forgotten that they have two versions of the i3!
V2.5 Voice with V8 maps internally. These seem to run the 3.20 software.
and the other is:
V2.0 Voice and a transflash memory card with V8 maps on it. These seem to only work with 2.70 so far. These I think hold more POI but get hang ups with the later 3.20 firmware.
This is the one I have. Garmin do not have downgrade path if a punter does a web update on the transflash version unit. I would have had to send it back to Garmin if it was not for the very nice guys on this forum.
Am I Correct here guys? Should I just update it to v3.20 and send it back under warranty as "Faulty" hoping I get sent the other version ?
P.S. StreetPilot sent me up a dead end today |
Now here's a funny thing. I have been bitching about 3.20 hanging my i3 (v8 maps and v2 voice with T/F) in here and to Garmin. I went back to 2.70 which was stable. Recently I updated back to 3.20 using WebUpdate in order to send the unit back to Garmin in the hope of getting V9 maps.
Guess what.... Good as gold for 3,000 miles. I hope Garmin are giving free update to v8 for units purchased after 1 Sept as speculated elswhere. |

I have just had to return my i3 to Garmin due to a fault with one of the buttons.
My old unit had 2.7 firmware with V8 maps on a transflash card.
The replacement has 3.2 firmware with V8 maps on a transflash card.
Just loaded the POI's and tried it out - totally unusable.
It's fine in a straight line, but turn a sharp corner or go round an island, and the map freezes for 10-20 seconds before catching up!!
Looks like another call to Garmin on Monday. |

Meh....
Gave v3.2 a good go, around 4 weeks / 3000 miles. Slow map, lockups (calculating 0% screen), not as good in complex situations with its timing of keep left or right etc. in one way systems.
Old faithful v2.7..... _________________ -----------------------------------

Hello,
Thought I'd give 3.2 a go (never updated firmware since I got it).
Downloaded from http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/streetpilot/sp_ix/
but when I run it it starts to work, kicks off WISE, then I get the message "signup.htm has been renamed, click OK to Exit".
Am I doing something stupid ? |

Personally i'd try reflashing it again. |

WISE is the installation manager software, which I presume is supposed to install 3.2.
How do I flash it ? |

When you run the update you have downloaded the process is called "Flashing the memory". Try redownlaoding the firmware or try an older firmware. |
