I see on SonyEricsson's website that the 990i's status has changed from "coming soon" to available. I'm interested in this phone with TomTom mobile 5 and was wondering if anyone has been able to determine if the TomTom software is "compatible" and if TomTom has confirmed that compatibility (not shown on the compatibility chart yet).
Thanks in advance

Hi Brian
I can't find anything on the tomtom website regarding the 990. However, the 910i is listed as supported.
Not even sure if the company will bring out a version for the new Symbian operating system.
Cheers

Its a different version of Symbian UIQ but does anyone know if my P910 version of TT5 will work on a P990?

No, it won't work at all.
However, Tomtom have said that they are working on Navigator 6 for SE but have no news on when it will be released. |

Agreed, I now have a P990i and my TT5 doesn't appear at all (ie invisable in the tools menu) on it. Place the mem stick back in the P910i and there it is!
So the P910i is staying in the car with a pay as you go SIM in it for satnav and the P990i will crack on as a phone!

You need TTN6 for the P990i - and you have to make sure you get the DVD version as this is the only 1 that includes the UIQ3 version. |

I have been checking the TomTom website regularly to see if they acknowledge compatibility for the 990i and, so far, it does not confirm compatibility. Here is the link: http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=260&Category=2&Lid=1
Do you have other information supprting compatibility? |

It's working on my P990i.
You just have to make sure you get the DVD version.
The only disappointing thing with TTN6 is it doesn't seem to have the rotate screen option (like TTM5 did) so you can get it widescreen |

OK, Here's the tip everyone is after
You can trick TT6 into widescreen on a P990i
1) Open Tomtom 6 and then close it so it appears in your rescent programs list.
2) Open Quickoffice, go to the drop down menu and select Landscape.
3) You should now have the view with the keyboard on the right hand side... Select the dropdown menu again and choose the task manager (which now comes up in landscape mode)
4) Open Tomtom the initial screen will look cut in half, but it will open in WIDESCREEN
5) Jump up and down and shout "THANK YOU MARViN!" |

Tomtom now state on the website that the Sony E. W950i is compatible with Navigator 6 DVD version.
This phone uses the same Symbian UIQ3 operating system as the 990i so it should run as the above post says.

SE have nurfed the office in the latest update, so now if you try to open the task manager after flipping the screen, it says 'Not supported'
The only way round this I have found is to use Swiss Manager Pro, which has a favourite program menu activated from an icon that is always visible. I use this to start office and then use it again to open tomtom in widescreen. |
