It was great to hear that both TomTom and Navman were introducing a solution comaptible with Palm T3.

But which is "better"?

I *think* I like TomTom's software, but the Navman GPS hardware seems much better (and replaceable batteries are the way to go).

Suggestions? (And might it be possible to miz TT software with Navman hardware?)

thx, MF

Your options are really going to be down to how the systems are packaged.

From the looks of the announcements made so far there are not going to be any software only versions available. Your choice must then be made on a combination of both GPS and software with no chance to mix and match.

Sigh, well I guess that will keep it simpler!

Thanks for the help.

I guess I will just sit back and wait on the details. I want to make sure that the one I choose is able to provide voice direction and POIs in both the UK and the USA (yes, I am sure this will cost a lot more but I really do need it ... hopefully, I won't have to buy two lots.)

thx, MF

There is a choice. I have just purchased a navman 4100 with separate software (mapsonic) for my T2. I could have also had the tomtom or emtac devices but with the navman at least the battery is replaceable.

regards hm

The Mapsonic software can be found at: http://www.pda.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/swi/swisite.nsf/html/homeEN

I would have mentioned this earlier but it wasnt part of your criteria. You will find that again at the moment this doesnt fit your criteria as the maps only cover Europe.

Mapsonic also uses a lot of memory for maps. The whole of the UK is over 200Mb in size.

If you buy Mapsonic then there is a download on the via Michelin site for the T3 to use the full screen.

You can now get the Navman/Smart ST bluetooth package for Palm - called the 4460 but I understand it is the same as the 4400 Pocket PC system. See http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/104/C2375/
