This has happened to my rider unit bought in May. It is now starting to happen to other members of my bike club - when I called support I got the distinct impression that this was a known fault, so far unit has been away for 5-6 weeks and it looks like its going to be another couple of weeks before unit is returned

Basically the symptoms are in the cradle on the bike the unit starts resetting itself, the progression from this is that it does not charge/run from the bike system and eventually drains tha battery.

Speaking to support the four contacts on the back are basically breaking contact so the unit thinks its just be cradelled and so restarts - when the contact is off it runs off the battery.

Support so far has been far from satisfactory - see separate thread - if the unit returns with new contacts I suggest that the fault will reoccur and Halfords will be getting the unit returned as unfit for purpose!!!

Proble got worse over period of a month to the point that it became unusable - like I say others are now experiencing same fault

I must say that after 4000 miles I've had no problems but I have longer screws and a piece of packing foam between the mount backplate and the docking cradle. Perhaps this extra padding helps reduce vibration as the pins on my RIDER show absolutely no signs of wear.

I'm on around the same distance but the pads on the unit all have indentations - similar on other units in my club

I guess I'm not a real rider then. Rain I don't mind but riding on snow or ice isn't for me.

It's the Rider I'm worried about, no the riders ;-) Apparently it is not as waterproof as it was supposed to be

I've had it out in the middle of a mean thunderstorm - kinda rain where cars were pulling up rather than driving on and praise where praise is due never had any issues

Just spotted this comment in another forum

"I have gone through 3 mounts in less than 3 mounths so if anyone is thinking of getting one carefully about how much you are going to use it.the cradle is not up to prolonged use and tomtoms answer is "it is designed for motorbikes so it cant be not up to it" and its over the time for a refund so you either have to find another cradle or be limited to 5 hours from the mains charger,my solution is to buy a garmin"

Hi Solobay

Would just like to say that I have had the same problems with my rider after only two months. Tomtom had the rider and the docking shoe for four weeks for repair,it was also shipped to the scottish repair facility, the day it was returned I fitted it back on the bike and it was still powering on and off while riding. I Have now had to send the docking shoe back for repair or replacement. Overall tomtom have had my rider as long as I have. I think tomtom must Know by now that there is a major problem with the connection between the rider & docking shoe but will not admit it. All rider owners should pool their info together and just see how big this disease is.

Me too.

Rang support earlier this week and they asked for the docking shoe to be sent back, but not the Rider head unit itself.
