on the start screen my rm300 tells me that my unit is over 12 months old and i should update the map.
i've had a look on the magellan website (bit crap i thought), i mean who would have thought that the maps for a 300 would be listed under the 'accessories' heading, i spent ages trying to find the maps.
anyway the problem is that the map for the UK just has a product number, 980810-12, not a release date. does anyone know how old this map is?

i didn't get much response here so it's a good job i emailed magellan.
it's quite informative so i thought i'd put the responce on here for those of you in the same predicament or have somehow managed to format your sd card by accident.
Dear Mr *****,
Thank you for contacting Magellan Customer Support.
It is possible to update the maps on your Roadmate 300 by sending your SD card
to our workshop.
We will then be able to download the maps from the first quarter 2005. This will
cost 63.95 inc Vat euros (that includes the download of the update and return
shipment fees).
Before sending your card back to us, you first have to check what version of
maps you have.
To do so:
- Start your RoadMate 300
- Select a user
- Press "Option"
- Select "User settings" and press "Enter"
- Select "Diagnostics" and press "Enter"
- Select "Product Information" and press "Enter";
The map version comes after "detailed map navstreets version" and "Basemap
navstreets version".
If you DON'T see "Q1 2005", it means that the you have a map version Q1 2004 and
that you can send us your SD card.
If you see "Q1 2005", you already have the latest map version.
If you want to get this map update to Q1 2005, you have two solutions for the
payment:
You can either pay by credit card or by bank transfer.
If you want to pay by credit card, please send us a letter with your credit card
detail:
- Type of card
- Name of the card holder
- Card Number
- Expiry date
Precise on the letter that you want an update for the maps of your Roadmate 300.
Make sure you write down the address you would like the new SD card to be sent
to.
Send us the SD card and this information by post to the following address:
MAGELLAN SAV
RUE DU TIBRE
BP 433
44474 THOUARE SUR LOIRE CEDEX
FRANCE
If you want to pay by bank transfer you first need to send us some information.
Please give us your name and first name as well as your full address (where you
want the
update to be sent to). Once we receive the information, we will give you the
information on
how to proceed for the payment
We remain at your disposal for any further information.
