Maybe the limit on messages is why you only get a certain radius of messages.
There are no plans to end analogue radio transmissions. |

So does not divide the info into regions. |
Typical, Tomtom contradicting themselves once more.
Yes, thats perhaps why, the tmc receiver can only receive a "set number" of messages, although tomtom say that the rds tmc can receive info for the whole of the UK, although I don't really see a REAL problem with this, especially if it's within 150 miles, surely once you start to move toward the end of the radius, the tmc will lock onto another FM Channel, or get the new regional news from the new region |

Can i just ask what are peoples preference's set up like under the traffic menu?!
What is ticked and what isn't ticked? Have people set the tmc receiver to "limit" the download of info frequency?!" |

When you set up traffic alerts on your car radio, as far as I'm aware you can specify if you want local or national traffic alerts...if not national then certainly a much broader range than local. Would that in car radio setting affect what range of information this tms receiver actually receives? |

I have just converted my POI file for Classic FM transmitters to the TomTom format, if anyone wants to try it. Each POI within the file has the transmission frequency, transmitter name and transmitter power contained within the POI name:
E.g. 100.1 Sutton Coldfield (250)
Frequency = 100.1
Tx Name = "Sutton Coldfield"
Power = (250) denotes 250,000 W, or 0,25MW
If you load the file to your device you can quickly find the nearest Classic FM transmitter to your current location, then you will know the frequency the TMC device should be locking to.
As with any radio transmission RF power is important, the higher the number in KW the longer the effective range of that specific station, however local terrain can cause masking of the signal.
Should you want the POI file please e-mail me (use the E-mail button below) and I will send the file over, if it proves to be of use it can be added to the POI Downloads page.
To use install as a normal TomTom ov2 file, put the files in the GB map folder.
Let the GPS acquire a position fix then tap "Browse Map" followed by Find then POI Near You, select the Classic FM POI category and the transmitters will be listed nearest to your location first in the list. Note the nearest might not be the strongest signal - pay attention to the power figure which is in KW.
This will only indicate the position of the transmitters, and offer you some frequency/ power information - but when out on the road you can soon find out which is the frequency for the area you are in.
Sub note - there are two transmitters located in Northern Ireland which I have not included in the file (can't find the lat/ long at present)

This looks useful, but you can't change any of the settings with the receiver can you?

Don't know about changing anything jamie, I created the file for another reason, just realised it might be of use to the forum membership. Bear in mind it is a dumb POI file with no other capability other than giving a clue as to a local station and frequency/ power levels - Mike |

You go to,
Traffic in the main menu, then hit preferences, here you'll see two boxes you can tick, if you tick both of them it will ask you if you want to limit the frequency that the receiver looks for the traffic info, the minimum amount of time is 2minutes.
Just wondering what other people have ticked and not ticked.
Byt the way got an email from tomtom support:
Dear,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support. The receiver is only going to obtain traffic information that is broadcast from the local/regional radio station where you are currently travelling. As you move between regions/localities the traffic information should change as you pick up a different radio station.
There would not be much point in receiving London traffic information if you are in Glasgow as it would have little, if any, bearing on your situation.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
I suppose this answers the question.
Mike, i've emailed you, please could you send me the poi file.
Cheers,
