I have put it on my N73. The installation went fine. Did you install it using a card reader/writer Dawg? That is how I did it.
Anyway that is about all that went fine. It is not very usable at the moment. It gets a GPS fix, so it knows where I am and it follows my route as I drive along, but the map scrolling is very, very jerky (i.e about 1 fps or less). Worse, it tells me that it is calculating and has calculated my route, but after that I hardly ever recieve verbal instructions on when to turn (like I got them once ever!!). Furthermore, the software periodically loses all connection to the gps reciever. The only solution then is to shut down and restart Route 66.
My (guess) is I think the problem lies with the bluetooth connection to my gps reciever. When I go in to the Route 66 GPS overview window, the display oscillates every second or so between "No Fix" and "Fix - here-are-your-co-ordinates-type-information".
At the moment I am surmising it is a problem with the N73 firmware. I have therefore contacted Nokia to see if it is a known problem.
If anyone else has any experience with this hardware / software combination it would be useful to hear your experiences to see if there are any common problems we are all experiencing (or indeed if it all works OK for you). |

Route 66 now have a free update on their web site for vs3 symbian phones like N80 & N73 This solves the stabillity problem as long as you have the updated firmware on your phone.
Don't try to update the route 66 any other way than by using a card reader attached to your pc as it won't work.
Having updated mine my only concern is that it now only speaks american english so for instance traffic islands are called rotaries
I still much prefer the TomTom system, especially for destination input. |
