What annoys me is not the fact that TomTom choose not to provide TTS on lower models. If thats their choice then so be it , annoying as it is that they don't want to take our money for upgrades.
But that they try to come up with crap excuses or lies as to why it won't work.
Just come out and say we do not wish to provide this feature on lower models.
But dont lie to your customers who know that it runs fine. |

Reading this thread some of the replies and analogies are absolutely ridiculous!!
I'm not trying to be offencive or rude towards anybody but guys come on...
There are replies about how "you gotta pay for what you get, therefore get the 910"... that's the most invalid argument if I've ever heard it put forward! the person requesting this doesn't say that they DON'T want to pay for it!!! in fact they are happy to PAY for it... so YES you would pay for more!
They just don't want the extra crap that comes with it, which is not needed, but you have to pay for!
Somebody used the car analogy, saying if you need air conditioning you have to pay more, well that's true, BUT if you are a high millage driver who need air conditioning in your car would you be happy if you were told the only way to get air conditioning was to have your alloy wheels upgraded to 22", have a 12 DVD changer in the boot with a 16 speaker upgrade and a sport exhaust system!? Or would you just want to pay a little extra and just get the air conditioning?
I know my post is irrelevant to the original query but some answers are so illogical that I had to put finger to keyboard! |

In his original post Speedcam wrote that Tom Tom were 'forcing' him to use the 'not so legal version' of Text To Speech.
This is plainly not true as nobody is being forced to do anything.
Anybody who's looking to buy a GPS unit has full access to all the features available on particular models for comparison. There's no point in buying one GPS then complaining that is doesn't have a particular feature.
I personally have TT910 but if the TT710 had TTS capability I probably would have bought that instead as I have no need for North America mapping or an MP3 player. However as Tom Tom doesn't include TTS on anything other the 910 that's the one I bought. I knew that and Speedcam would or should have known that.
Of course anybody is allowed to air their opinions on the pros and cons of particular manufacturers or models, in fact this should be actively encouraged, however to say that a manufacturer is 'forcing' someone to do something 'not so legal' and then complain when the said manufacturer closes the loophole is just a bit over the top.
It's a fact of life that there are very few mass produced things available where you can buy something tailormade to your own specifications. For example I would like SkySports plus just a few other channels however for my satellite subscription I have to pay for loads of other channels I never, ever watch. Do I like it ? not particularly but as that is what is available I have to accept it. |

That's it in a nutshell. Active discussion is encouraged on what features are wanted or not. What is not encouraged on this site is active discussion on how to circumvent protection methods, whether via open forum or Private Message. We don't even want to read that it's been done, let alonehow it's been done. _________________ Tim |
