Doug, is this a Nuvi device or i3 ? do you get any prior warning of the unit about to switch off on the display, or does the unit simply dump and switch off, I would start by checking the cig lighter socket is correctly plugged in to the device and the car. Mike |

Check the lighter socket is clean and the plug is firm in the socket. Also is there a fuse in the lighter plug end, it could be loose or replace fuse as they dont 'blow' just go high resistance. Another thing, just a guess does the cig. socket switch itself off after a while? to prevent the cig. lighter (a real one) causing a fire....?
Ooh, and the connection to the i3 is good. Can you get the i3 to turn off by touching the power swich, poor switch?
Funny the time stamp here is tomorow!!!

I've had this a couple of times, recently more when using firmware version 3.10, but recently a couple of times with 3.20.
This is using ciggy power, but also with batteries loaded. No beeps or 30 seconds countdowns to suggest any blips in power from the adapter.
This has been either when just turning the i3 on, waiting for reception before getting it to calculate a route, or whilst it's calculating a route.
To the OP: what firmware version are you running, what reception mode (ie WAAS or normal), and what's the sat nav doing at that point? ie in map view mode, navigating, calculating, that sort of thing... |

I Have just started having the same problem too. It just switches off and wont re start with the 12v cable attached, but will with batteries. Then you plug the cable back in and all is fine, and just select view map and it is still navigating.
All very random.
I have ordered a new power cable as i think it may be that, as mine has some bad kinks and knicks, but not totally convinced!
Im running 2.7 and it has just started to happen this week gone. _________________ Don't eat yellow snow

you could have a failing power car adapter. It may not be giving the i3 enough power.
Try reducing the screen brightness do say 3 and the volume to 3 also. If that works it is your adapter.
You can use the adapter for a motorola v3 phone and i would recomend the one from Tesco's( £3-£4) as this has anough power for full brightness and volume(some cheaper ones don't have enough OOMPH) _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

Surely if that was the case, people would just get the 30 second shut-off warning (bearing in mind, I think everybody here who's had the problem has stated they have batteries in as well).
That's what happens if I knock or disturb the power cable and it briefly interrupts the power to the i3. |

I would have thought that too, just tried it again and the image is very fainitly visiable when it shuts off, but on pressing power again it just picks up where it left off. |

The power adapter light changes colour as if it is supplying power then back to the original state either red/green/red or green/red green cant remember which. _________________ Don't eat yellow snow
