Cheers Lester,

Not only will that fix the problem, as my memory is so bad that I downloaded it a while back and savedmy faves at that time, so I have most of them again, it has reminded me to backup them up a little more often and remember the program.

Thanks again.

Paying attention to this thread, I downgraded to 2.7, but have lost all my favourites, and I had quite a few. Crying or Very sad

So I do not do it again, is there a way to save the favourites, if I decide to upgrade in the future?

TIA

I managed to upload a video of the slow F.W 3.20.

You can view it at www.youtube.com.

Just do a search for 'i3' and you should find it okay.

i3 on the left was running FW 3.20 with POI's installed (maps on transflash).
i3 on right was running FW 2.70 with POI's installed (maps on internal memory)

It takes over 30 secs for the 3.20 unit to refresh. The 2.70 unit was almost immediate.

I wish Garmin would view the file!!!

Happy viewing.

I did, but they said they were not allowed to view video files from third party sources.

I may send them a link to You Tube however!!

Below is a copy of an email I sent to Garmin:

I would like to know when you're going to get your act together and finally
sort out the mess with the firmware for the I3, ever since version 2.70 it
has been a complete cock up, what with the screen freezing up, voice prompts in the wrong place and many other problems, some versions of the I3 work OK, some do not, I and many others have emailed Garmin and the situation remains the same, with the experience I have had so far it is unlikely that I and many other I3 users will purchase from Garmin again.

Their answer:

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe

I apologise for the inconvenience that you have been caused

I recommend that you do two things

Firstly please turn the unit off
Hold the 3 buttons on the front together
(the power, the scroll and the arrow)
The unit will then switch on and ask if you really want to erase all data?
You need to select yes
Then I recommend that you manually update the unit
(this is slightly different to web updater)

Please follow the attached instructions

If you have any further questions please let me know.

Copy of attached instructions:

Manual update

Please go to www.garmin.com
Enter your unit in the search bar on the right hand side
Then select updates and downloads (situated about 5 sentences down)
Accept the above terms
Download the latest software to your pc
Send to your unit
Make sure the unit is turned on and is connected to the pc.

I despair; they obviously haven't listened to a word we have said to them

I had the same reply about 3.00

I wrote back and said they were talking sh1t

But more politely

also CC this guy in as well
Customer Support

They will ask if you want to send it back for testing

OK, I want to revert back to 2.7. How do I do it without using the webupdater ?

I am confused but would like my I3 back to how it was.

All I can say is that if three out of four i3's (in my opinion and personal experience) do not work correctly, they will have a lot of testing to do.

Luckily I will probably be able to retain the 2.70 (internal maps) unit for my own use, so I'll not need to return my original unit for testing.

Are they both the same types of i3? Have you tried swapping the versions around? 2.7 in the left one, and 3.20 in the right one?

(Sorry if you have already).

hardly a fair test...

surely you should try:

internal 2.7 v transflash 2.7
internal 3.2 v transflash 3.2
then
internal 2.7 v internal 3.2 (obviously you'd need a 2nd i3 with internal mem)
transflash 2.7 v transflash 3.2 (again, 2 units req'd)

your test changed 2 variables so doesn't pinpoint anything - doing 4 tests will let you see the diff between f/w in each unit and if type of memory also has an effect.

does that make sense?

MaFt (sorry, got my scientific/experimental brain in today!)

And a full reset, so those stacks are reset (who knows what they might be assuming)...

I did test both units with 2.70, but the one with internal memory was still much better.

I simply didn't want to mess with the firmware on one that was working fine.

All in all there should be no way be such a difference in the operation of the units.

I was simply trying to prove that an original 2.70 internal map unit whips a transflash 3.20.

So in conclusion maybe better to leave well alone and not upgarde firmware??
