However 15 minutes in Map Mode and it's lagging like a fat kid on Sports Day. It only updated the last 1/2 mile once i got on my drive. Most of the time it was about 50 meters behind me. Weird thing is the Speedo updates ok but not the map (again).
More tests coming... |
I and mussey1 have reported exactely the same problem earlier. I have noticed this only on map mode (which is not of much use to me anyway) and I have the full set of POIs loaded (GPX files for the speedcams from Ash's old application - so 48,000+ POIs -). Haven't tried it without the POIs as they are more important to me than "map Mode" and my Garmin is the older version with the maps on TF card if this piece of information is useful. Interesting to know the experience of others but I have a feeling that the maps are slightly more zoomed out now which could be exaggerating the screen lag problem.[/b] |

Just to say that all in all I am really very happy with the latest version (despite my previous posts) and I think that this could be the version to use for people who are hesitant to give it a try. |

I have a card that came with the i3 and have no problems. | I have the built in maps and POIs on card. No problems encountered yet. _________________ Garmin i3

Hi,
I have reverted my own unit back to FW 2.4 and it seems to have helped, however it is still not as good as the non transflash 2.7 unit.
Unfortunately I mostly use map mode as here in NI I don't need navigate all that often.
I mostly use the i3 for the camera alert, however I also intend to install a further 3000 + poi's in connection with my work, which I hoped would be able to alert me as I passed certain points.
With the lag in the screen this will be useless as the poi would be long passed by before the graphics on the screen caught up!!
What is annoying me is that 3.2 works 110% with no poi's, so what could be causing the problem??
Perhaps PaulB or Almahadeus could reinstall 3.2 without poi's and run a test on map mode and report back?
Cheers
Mussey1. |

Morning,
Well i've tested it on the way to work today, and it seems much better. The zooming is more appropriate, and dare I say it, the route calculation seems better! I have to drive past the AWE in burghfield, and since its not allowed to be on any maps the previous version was having trouble routing me around it, this one seemed fine! Unless I was imagining it before (which at that time of the morning is entirely possible!).
It recalculated as soon as I went of track as well (I knew a better way at one point), much sooner than before. It just seemed crisper generally, but hopefully im not speaking too soon!
Im going to risk taking it to our long weekend in Cornwall this weekend, hopefully it'll last the night at Jamaica Inn on saturday night (wooooo... ).
So far so good! ![Driving](modules/Forums/images/smiles/custom18.gif) |

Ohh forgot to mention, I dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but on one particular sharp left bend the older version said turn left, this one now says bear left! |

I have found that even with the lag the speedo, direction and banner at the top of the screen still updates correctly (i.e. Smith Road ahead, Jones Avenue ahead etc) it's just the map section that lags.
Also the camera alerts (and therefore i presume all POI alerts will) still function ok. |

paul, just wondering whether your sat signal strength could be a contributing factor for the screen lag.. _________________ *************************** |

Definitely. The new voice promptings are dreadful for areas where road turnings are clustered together. The first version of firmware that did this I hated and so went back to v2.7 as soon as I got home. I'd like to be able to take advantage of some of the improvements in later firmware but the "improved" voice prompts have stopped me.
In defence of the "improved" voice prompts I do think they are better for motorways etc as the final turn left prompt on the older firmware versions is often given as the sliproad exit disappeared (although if you hadn't listened to the first prompt and got over that was your fault really )
However, do the "improved" voice prompts use the max speed for the road at all? Is it just a hard coded x.x miles from the turn? |

Not sure how. The 3.2 acquires the Satellites a lot quicker than 2.7, and the lag doesn't exist with the 2.7 FW! The i3 also consistently shows 4-5 bars when it lags with 3.2 FW and the back button is pressed.
See my Sig for my antenna set up. Works every time, just fine with 2.7 since release. |

Also if the signal strength is to blame then why does it still know what roads are coming up and what speed i am doing? These still display ok. It just seems to be that the main map section of the screen stops updating and freezes. |

definate lag in map mode but nav mode is fine... i can live with it as the only time i would need map mode only is if i am driving somewhere i know - in which case i wouldn't have ivy with me anyway...
will still email garmin about it though and also mention that nav mode has improved a lot
