US Maps - how do I know they work?

I've just paid for and installed the Western USA maps on my 700 (a more painful experience than it should have been - it kept wanting to reinstall ActiveSync despite the fact I have the latest version); they seem to be loaded on my machine BUT I can't access cities, eg if I enter Seattle it isn't available. Will they become available automatically once I get to the States or is there something else I need to do?

Sorry, I can answer my own question. I had to go through Preferences/Manage Maps/Switch Maps and then enter the activation code. Thank heavens I realised this now, as I would not have had the code available if I'd waited till I got to the States!

You're not the first to not realize that you have to switch maps!

I found the whole process pretty unsatisfactory. I'm tolerably IT literate and hate to think what someone who isn't would have made of it.
