i bought a garmin i3 in Jan.
at the time i had a ford focus, i would plug the garmin in and within a matter of seconds i would have a signal.
about 4 months ago i bought a renualt scenic.
while transfering items from my old car to new i dropped the garmin.

now when i plug the garmin in it takes an age to get a signal,
today i drove of 40 mins before i got a signal.

i have the speed camera data base on the garim, it warns that the cameras are ahead when i am clearly only drving at 20 mph.
but the garmin things i am over the speed limit

could i have broken something inside when i dropped it or is the issue with the new car?

A couple of things spring to mind, firstly the new car probably has a windscreen that is coated with Athermic glass, this is known to attenuate GPS signals by a considerable margin.
There are a couple of options you can try,

Get a sat fix before you get in the vehicle, once the device knows where it is it should hang on to the signal, switch it on as you leave the house.

Obtain an external aerial, Maplins sell a compatable unit for very a very small outlay circa £15, put this infront of your rear view mirror and route the cable around the windscreen, connect it to the i3.

Never drive off without a GPS fix, the unit is working hard to find out where it is while stationary, if moving it will take ages (as you have found).

The POI Warnings at the wrong speed are probably down to the POI Loader application being set to use KPH rather than MPH when you last updated the camera database on the device, simply re-load the POI's but make sure you select MPH (its the second dialogue box entitled "What units should be used for distance and speed")

I don't think the unit is broken, just a tad limitted by the current vehicle and set-up, once this is worked through it should work OK - Mike

My Megane has the same problem.

Look above the rear view mirror. If the there is a section of glass that is covered in black dots then if you get the angle right you can there is no blue coating. I have my antenna stuck here and it works brilliantly. Just tuck the excess cable away.

I have a scenic . The i3 will work without an extra Antena on the Driverside front Side fixed window(ahead of the drivers electric window), as the side windows don't have same glass.

I hope this helps
