Yes it can - the control for doing so is your right foot. |

You beat me on that reply. I use speed cam database to know when some silly sod is about to slam on his anchors
I do not often speed, but I find the guy in front often gets paranoia
With cam alerts, at least I am warned that some prat will suddenly almost stop. With 38 tons behind them, I wonder at their stupidity
Still TomTom are doing their best with this release. I just wish the maps were more uptodate
I notify them and the providers at each change, but it seems like it falls on deaf ears
but even so, it beats looking at an atlas _________________ TomTom Go720 v8.320

Thats all well and good, but from what I've seen the data for road speeds is not very accurate. I've been travelling accross the A14 (70mph dual carriage way) and TT had the speed limit at 40mph - which was the speed through the roadworks last year.
So I'll assume that answer is no then ;-) |

IIRC, if you have your speed displayed on the Status bar then coded roads will warn you if you exceed the coded limit. If you don't have speed displayed then the coded speeds don't feature either. Again, IIRC, it's all or nothing. _________________ Tim |

Sorry - it was a cheap gag I know...
You are right of course - the tool is only as good as the data behind it, and speed limits do change. It cannot be relied upon, but can be a handy guide.
As Tim B says, you can turn speed off altogether, or you can simply ignore the red flashing when you KNOW it to be incorrect. Not perfect, but there you go... |

One question has struck me. Does anyone know if the software uses the speed limit data when calculating routes? I've had TT5 send me through a town from my start point when the quicker route was to start by heading away from my destination on a dual-carriageway that met the by-pass sooner. ( Presumably because both roads were coded as the same type. ) If it knew that the DC was faster than the urban roads it should use it.Shouldn't it? |
