SysOnChip shouldn't need any introduction here. Back in August 2003 we reviewed the SysOnChip CF Plus GPS Receiver using the latest SiRFXTrac technology. In September, SysOnChip announced that they were producing the new Bluetooth GPS Receiver dubbed the SOC2S03. The SOC BT GPS comes standard with SiRF IIe/LP Chipset (not SiRFXTrac like the CF Plus GPS Receiver).

Straight out of the box, this is one impressive looking GPS. Look at the contour lines, the air-brushed silver alongside the shiny silver GPS square, and against the matt black finish. If anything looks good to the eye, the SOC BT GPS does!

AFAIK GPS Warehouse are the only UK retailer stocking these. If anyone knows different, please let me know!

Hi, I just bought this unit as well. And as Dave's review has put it, the documentation is rather weak.

I have had one unit replaced because it just hung up on me after a few days usage and it could not get a fix (the amber light). The second unit has just done the same thing to me again after about a week's usage.

Does anyone know how to reset the unit using the provided sysonGPS viewer?

I am new to this GPS stuff and it could be me getting it all wrong.

Appreciate any help from someone who is familiar with using this product.

Thanks

If it's not getting a fix, then it's probably a hardware failure. You can perform a cold/factory reset by following this document http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/winfastnavigatorppc.php and download WinFast Navigator, but all that will do is erase the ephemeris data and almanac data the GPS is holding and re-request a download. If you do a factory reset, then it will take approx 15 mins to obtain a fix, a cold fix will take approx 1 min.

Make sure you do have a proper view of the sky, and not behind a windscreen just in case you have an athermic windscreen.

Is there a list of software/hardware compatability anywhere? I use Memory Map, and am thinking of getting Copilot 5 and a bluetooth reciever, but I seem to see things about some recieves not being compatable with some software, because of port settings.
