|
|
Just bought a 2GB SD card (datawrite) from amazon, so I can load the full european mapset onto my 510D.
The SD card works just fine using a card reader, and I can format and use it. However the 510D won't read it, and claims its unformatted.
Trying to format it while its inside the 510D gives an error.
I can only imagine the 510D can't cope with 2gb cards, or this card in particular. I've put in a support request to garmin about this (but I'm not hopeful, they ignored my last one), but was wondering if anyone here had experienced the same thing? |

I can't help with your problem, but generally the Nuvi range cope well with 2Gb cards, but are more fussy with 4Gb cards. Certainly Garmin used to say (in general) not to use cards of more than 1Gb, but have now upped that to 2Gb. Is your 510d on the latest firmware?
Having said that, my 2Gb card is a Toshiba one, so it might be a brand issue. |

I think it's a brand issue - I also had similar trouble with a 1gb Datawrite SD card. I got a 1gb Sandisk UltraII and it worked fine
I emailed Garmin about this, they say they are not aware of any brand issues and users have reported using 2gb cards with no trouble. I emailed a guy on here who was selling a 2gb card he used with his C510 and it was a Sandisk UltraII
So dump the Datawrite and get a Sandisk |

Got a reply from Garmin :
Quote: | You can us a 2GB card no problem but you can't us a high speed cards in any of are unit so make sure it is not a high speed card. |
The suggestion being that my spanky fast datawrite card (133x write speed), won't work, but an older slow card will.
I have my eye on a 2GB Kingston card (£17.99) at dvd.co.uk, which appears to be a lowest speed card. Hoping that will do the trick. |
