I'm afraid I emailed Tomtom, enquiring about upgrade.
The reply I quote "Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
Navigator 6 is a completly new product and therefore it will not be an upgrade from earlier versions to Nav 6." |

Likewise.
I have to make a decision imminently on a new pda/phone.
I have used 5.2 extensively throughout europe and apart from one incident where the whole thing locked up and i had to do a hard reset ( meaning i had to rely on my memory for a 600 mile journey through 3 countries!) it has been relatively painless and quite friendly!
Do i stick with tomtom and go for v6 or do i change altogether?
Knowing EXACTLY when V6 is out would be very, very helpful!
Now the NDA has been lifted, do the moderators know?

Found the overspeed thing.
You need to have the current speed shown on your display, if you go over the road speed the limit will be shown in red, if you continue to go over the speed the correct speed will begin to flash. But if I have speed shown the whole thing is too small to see anyway, besides. I have this huge clock like thing on my dash saying my speed
Is V6 worth the upgrade (or re-purchase it would appear). No way.
Sure its got the nice colors (actually, they look the same but you get that gradient effect).
New maps, you can buy them anyway.
Improved navigation, few more voice instructions but the old one still got you there.
Real motorway sighn posts. Pah, dont make me laugh, they just have rounded edges, still the same thing (the motorway name in the top right thingy).
If you want buddies then yeah, you need 6.
And as far as I known, Navigator v6 isnt out yet so not sure how ebay has it. _________________ Visit Wayfinder Life for all your Wayfinder Navigator needs |

Hi all,
A colleague of mine at work has TomTom 6 installed on his PDA & to be honest we are not very impressed for the following reasons.
Against
1, NO LANDSCAPE MODE, this is out biggest gripe as we all preferred the screen in landscape mode like the Go’s
2, The system appears to be no quicker than 5 when driving (the scrolling on maps is no smoother, maybe more jerky considering its portrait).
For
1, The ‘new colours’ appear to be a gradient effect on the taskbar which does look better & the the next road is in a blue box with rounded corners which also looks better than 5.
2, The maps are updated.
There are other new functions such as the set arrival time when planning a route & also removed from 5 but on previous versions the safety speed setting where the map disappears from view when you reach a speed you set to be replaced with a large icon showing your next manoeuvre & distance to it. Then there are the TomTom plus services which we here don’t use anyhow.
Taking all of the above into account we here will most likely just purchase the upgraded maps for 5, the lack of portrait mode in 6 is enough on its own to stop us upgrading the software also.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Ipaq |

I can confirm it is indeed more jerky. Overall responsivness is down slightly, still super quick but before it was instant, now its a tiny weeny teeny bit sluggish, maps dont scroll so smooth, around 4-8 FPS, depending on how many POI's you have visible.
The only way to put it in landscape is to set your device to landscape before you launch tomtom, it now obeys windows mobile 2003 (SE2) and wm5 display settings. _________________ Visit Wayfinder Life for all your Wayfinder Navigator needs |

Not sure I quite understand...are you saying V6 maps will be/are, available to V 5.21 users ? Or are you referring to the TT V6 Software/Maps option, which gives you the complete replacement of 5 to 6 anyway ?
I'm generally 'happy' with 5, all I want is updated maps. |
