|
|
My TomTom Go seems to have a lot of files on it that are probably unnecessary.
Can anyone tell me the bare necessacity files that are required to give a system that will function.
Or even a list of what each file does in order that I can add or delete features that I may or may not want to use.
Thanks |

Which Version of TT do you have?
Before you do anything, make sure you do a Full Backup.
Deleting Files can be very risky. Usually it's better to wipe the Card clean, and re-install the Software and add the Maps from the Backup. The reason for the Backup.
Any POI you want to keep you can either use the Backup, or download and install again. _________________ Richard

I have a Tomtom Go classic and yes I have backed up & have a couple of 256 meg sd cards but some of the file names dont appear to have any bearing on the operation Ie birthday, connect to the internet etc
I wuold like to have an uncluttered card with just the necessary files which is good PC practice ( I am a PC hardware engineer) |

Its an idiot practice if you dont need the space. The best you'll get is a TT that works as it does now (eg no change), the worst, a load of hassle trying to fix it.
Bearing in mind the convoluted way that TT works, with for example an empty folder being needed to make post code selection work, I advise you to leave it alone and find something more useful to do, maybe Morris Dancing?

Tumbleweed, please tone down.
As for the original question.
You need
\ttsystem
\data.chk
the map folder including ALL files
and a voice file pair (CHK plus VIF)
as the bare minimum. _________________ Lutz

Seriously, do you really think its 'good practice' to start removing files just for the sake of a 'neat' sd card?

No Tumbleweed its not just for a neat card I would like to get great britain & major roads of europe plus cameras plus a point of interest file on a couple of 256 meg cards that I have (1 main & 1 backup)
Without the unnecessary files these should go on . Over the last year or so with sucessive downloads various odd files seem to have appeared that probably have no bearing on the operation of the TomTom. Hence my question which was "what files are actually needed" and not "do you think I should remove files", which is surely my preference and up to me. Remarks like Idiotic are unnecessary & offensive and if you are not capable of reading and replying civily to the question asked why clutter up the thread with such inane comments.
Many thanks to the more informed of you who have given me the information I requested. |

Sorry, obviously I was imagining things when you said (I quote)
" wuold like to have an uncluttered card with just the necessary files which is good PC practice "
And you weren't reading when I said
"Its an idiot practice if you dont need the space." (my emphasis)

Is there some dodgy stuff on it that you want to delete without wrecking it so you can sell it on ebay? |
