Guys n Girls,
Something been bothering me since getting my TOMTOM 910.... How accurate should I expect this thing to be? Am i being fussy with this? i.e.: When driving along and passing either junctions or side roads, it seems to be a few yards out, like I am at the turning but on the 910 a have a few yards to go, and also when going round a roundabout, it seems to take a while before realising ive missed a turn off, and then a few seconds to realise it, and recalculate..... Always have good amount of sats its hooked into, and its fairly instant in picking up my location when I switch it on..

TT's update about once per sec. At 30mph this equates to about 15 yards.
The GPS has an accuracy of 5 yards, I think, and these 2 factors, plus any inaccuracies on the Map Data, can give a moments glitch. Some areas seem to be more prone to it, which suggests that the Map is not so accurate to Real Life.
As you say it soon rights itself. _________________ Richard

Funny story I found out about yesterday regarding SatNav Accuracy.
I leant my father in law our TomTom ONE this weekend, as they were driving from Somerset to Suffolk to visit old friends they had not seen in a few years.
I had added their friends address (postcode and housenumber) as a favourite to make it easy for them to navigate to.
Father-in-law was delighted with the TomTom, accuracy at junctions etc, so when it said 'you have reached your destination' he just turned into the nearest driveway, and they started unloading the car.
Mother in law thought it was strange their friends had a double garage they didn't remember from before, they kept ringing the bell, and no answer, then realised the house was a completely different size, and they were obviously not at the right house !
When they checked house names (no numbers on signs), they realised the TomTom was about 100 yards out !
It made me chuckle, so I think lesson to learn is that SatNav/GPS is never going to be perfectly accurate, so you still need to pay attention when driving !! _________________ --

To be out by 100 yards or so probably isn't a fault with the GPS more likely the mapping was inaccurate.
or postcode, since AIUI its estimated, eg if there is a long road with 100 houses in the same postcode it just averages it out to guess where any particular number would be*. I can understand though,m why someone might think each individual house has its location mapped if for road junctions etc its spot on.
*or in one instance that directly affected me, it took me to a post office 5 miles away, since the post code was actually a companies 'sorting postcode' where all their post went!

According to the Post Office website a full seven digit postcode identifies a group of up to 80 addresses and tells the delivery office which postal route (or walk) will deliver the item.
Also a road may have a postcode for one side of the street and a slightly different one for the other as it is easier for a postman to walk up one side and down another rather than continually having to cross over.
