Woops! I tried it on a mate's PPC with a no-name SiRF III BT GPS and managed to change the baud rate such that it wouldn't work anymore.
I only had to take the battery out for a few minutes before it factory reset itself so that was a relief. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Hi guys,
Just received my Holux 236 and it's coming up with a malfunction when connecting to USB.
I've tried three seperate PC's (installing USB drivers before connecting etc) and every time Windows reports that the USB device is malfunctioning.
It seems to charge over the USB cable and I can connect to my MDA Tytn and get GPS working. Is there any reason for connecting via USB cable other than doing a Firmware update?
My Holux unit is SN: 236-525012** (last two number i've left our incase they can be used in a bad way for whatever reason??)
Does my unit even need to be flashed? I haven't had a chance to really test it out yet being at work. |

It seems the USB cable I got with the unit is only a charging cable and NOT a data cable. Either that or the USB connector on the unit is faulty. I was able to connect over bluetooth however and got everything up and running, finally!
My firmware is:
3.1.1_3.1.00.07-C23B1.00
I think that's already the latest, the update on the Holux site doesn't say what version it is so I don't fancy flashing it just yet.. |

Yep, that's correct. You need a special cable from Holux with USB to serial dongle in it to connect to the GPS and it appears as a COM port on your PC. _________________ Gone fishing! |

You would think they might mention that the usb cable supplied isn't for data! Oh well, at least I don't have a faulty unit although it does seem to take about half an hour to get a lock... |
