Is there any way of getting the One to power up when an external supply is connected and off when it is removed?

No - for that you would need an active cradle like on the GOs

I didn't realize at first that the ONE didn't have an active cradle like the 510 and 910. It really is a much different device than the GOs...in a good way.

I assumed that the detection of power was done internally within the GO, rather than just detecting whether the unit was plugged into the cradle and that same facility might be available but unused in the One.

The Dock settings menu option appears, but is greyed out, which suggests that the same basic software is installed.

Navman deals with this by the simple method of allowing you to turn the
battery off, which seems like a nice simple solution to something that many users might find useful.
