Hi all

Had my i3 for 6months now & really pleased. Bought my dad one for his birthday but it wont give voice prompts. When you scroll volume up & down on mine it says 1 through 5 etc, my dads doesnt, stays silent.
On the settings on mine under language you have text or voice, my dads only has text, i suspect this is the problem, ive updated the software for him to 3.10 but voice is still missing, any ideas?

Thanks
Paul

Thanks Zogman but the thing is there is no language to change i.e: when in settings you should have text or voice to choose from, on my dads there is no voice option, only text?

it appears that garmin stipulate the use of their 'webupdater' to make sure you get the latest voice guidence when loading version 3.10 ..i suggest two things ..load firmware version 2.7 (very stable) here or reload version 3.10 using webupdater...

Zogman, have just reinstalled 3.10 using webupdater & still no voice under the language prompt. Looks like a fault within the unit, think i'll have to take it back Sad

Hi Zogman

Just an update from yesterday. Took the unit back to Comet & they tried ringing garmin, i told them it was a waste of time because they must be on hols or something as i had been trying for two days without success.
Anyway, they didnt believe me & kept me there for an hour while trying to get through to garmin.
Told them the problem & they eventually agreed that there was a software patch or something missing. I asked if they would swap it but all they had was ex-display model so my dad agreed he would try it.
Got it outside & tried it & voice was in the menu. Away we go i thought but there was no postcode search, just cities & all way home we were in an open space with no roads etc. I assumed it to be a very early model which, the bloke at comet said, "try it, if no good i will order a new one for Friday"
Now i assume the early models came with software that you install with all the mapping etc. Of course they didnt have this disc being ex-display.
I gothome & rang the store & the guy said i would have to come in & bring the unit back, sign for it so he could order a replacement & then pick the replacement up next week.

Why is the country now full of expensive 0870 numbers to call, the i3 is still a top selling model & they had none in stock & they had no intention of ordering anymore. Nothing is ever staright forward anymore Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, rant over, just thought id let you know the outcome, hopefully, fingers crossed, my dad will have an i3 next week that works Laughing Out Loud

Thanks again
Paul

sounds like they gave you a unit with very early firmware and version 7 mapping...the latest firmware gives you postcode search and version 8 maps might have had the road you were travelling on...good luck for the replacement mate.
