My go classic has ceased to work and has a burnt smell about it it was at the time being used on the 12v lead I have checked the output and it is 12v instead of the expected 5v so it seems its the usual problem with a failed charge lead, I purchased the unit 03/08/2004 so will tomtom help if i contact them as its out of warranty any advise appreciated thanks |

It might be worth contacting TT as it was a known problem on the earlier units. They did have a 2 Year warranty and it's only just passed that. _________________ Richard

I had exactly the same problem just the other day. Smoke and everything!
I shall contact TomTom and see what they say. As they don't make the classic Go anymore, if they replace it what will it be replaced with?? |

An update ,I just checked status online and it said "await pay" so I gave them a call and explained the situation and was told i wouldnt have to pay :D , as we were speaking i received an email requesting 50 euro as not covered by warranty , was again reassured i wouldnt be charged although support status page is now blank so will update when i know more . Good news :D recieved my repaired unit back today free of charge although accompanying letter states that only items purchased after 1st jan 2005 benefit from the 2 year warranty, I also get a 6month warranty on the repair.
The replacement car lead has the clear 2 amp fuse and is putting out just over 5volts so hopefully the problem won't occur again |

Bad news Got my unit back last week after being without it for over a month. Plugged the repaired unit into the replaced car charger and guess what? Black screen and more smoke.
To say I am NOT HAPPY is an understatement :x
Needless to say TomTom customer services better be on top form today. |
