And it's the Q1 hands down.
Q2 has a higher spec ie, poi loader which I might add is a great feature if for nothing else but the camera database. It also has full postcode feature which I personally don't need.
The Q1 however - because of the simpler mapping technology is much faster in displaying your position.
I put the Q1 and Q2 in their holders on my dashboard and drove home from work. It's only a 9 mile run with about 6 of it on the M4. My Q1 as usual performed faultlessly with my position constantly displayed on the screen and the map gently scrolling down in the background.
The Q2 was constantly going blank whilst attempting to redraw the map. It also had to 'Recalculate' twice.
When I approached my exit both units announced to 'exit left to roundabout' (or words to that effect) On approach to the roundabout both units announced 'take second exit'.
Q2 now goes into a sulk and doesn't make another appearance until 200 yards after i've exited the roundabout and made another left turn!
Q1 follows my every move with my position and roundabout both displayed on the screen. It continues with this all the way round the roundabout, gives me another 'take second exit command' followed by a 'take second exit then turn left'.
Q1? Fantastic bit of kit.
Q2? Fantastic bit of kit totally ruined with the 'New Technology' mapping.
And you're stuck with the NT mapping on the 2, it is not removeable.
So, i'll be selling my 1 week old Q2 for £300 plus p+p. That's not far off a £100 loss, but i'll be able to buy a new Q1 and my lad can have my old one.
I'm gonna grab another Stella now so cheers! |

Sorry to hear that it's come down to you having to sell it Garmin must have something to say about this. Surely it's not fit for purpose if it, quite literally, can't keep up?
Just over a week ago I was contemplating a Q2 or a TomTom Rider but realising that I was stretching the budget a bit too far (what budget) I bid low on a Q1 on eBay and won, looks like in more ways than one now. _________________ Chas

Yeah Bumkin,
you won't go far wrong with the Q1. I phoned Garmin support earlier today and spoke to a great bloke called Chris. He said if I liked I could send them my Q2 for them to check it as he thought it should out perform the Q1.
To be honest, after what i've read on here, I don't think there is anything that needs repairing with my Q2 so i'm just gonna sell it on. |

Before selling a Q2, contact your vendor. Here in the Netherlands, the importer is taking Q2's back for the full price due to the performance issues. So a lot of shops also do a full money back deal. ;) _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

The problem with that Elsinga is that it was belated 40th birthday present so I feel a bit cheeky asking for the receipt so I can get the money back.
Any idea how I can remove the 'custom poi's' from it? I've already done a factory reset but they still remain.
Thanks. |

They are no longer imported in Belgium, the Baltic area and Switzerland, IIRC.
And regarding the trade-over to a Quest 1, justtake the ones who gave you the GPS with you and let them deal with receipts and stuff. ;) _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

@elsinga
Where's the information from about not importing Q2 into Switzerland? The main reseller has it still on offer on his Webpage (garmin.ch).

Hi elsinga and the others
I've mailed them with the question about CPU problems in Q2 and a sales stop or a possible "recall" of any kind. I've got an answer very fast. It said that they had problems with it (the CPU) but with the newest Unit Software (2.80) this is fixed. No kind of return/exchange policy or sales stop at all.
