Hi,

Newbie here but managed to get my i3 set up with 2.7 firmware, all POIs and the speed camera database. So far so good ... the only gripe I have is that on both of my cars the screen suction cup mount keeps the i3 a little too far away for easy viewing, especially with its small screen. I've looked at the Garmin site and seen a replacement mount the same size and a dashboard mount but not a longer suction mount.

Has anyone seen one/got one? Experiences? Has anyone tried the optional dash mount from Garmin?

All comments welcome ...

... just to add that I have looked at all the options on this forum BUt the sticking point seems to be having a ball/socket joint on the end of the mount as the garmin one does. Any suggestions appreciated ...

Oh, I will try the sucker on the dash but I have a feeling it won't stick ...

I got one of these...

http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod2991.html

No suction mount required, mount it where you want, doesn't move when "making good progress", no suction mark on the windscreen alerting the scrotes that I have a GPS.

Not cheap, but then i got my I3 for £99 !

I reckon it will if you use the 'red disc' that came in the box.

I have the same problem with seeing the i3 when the mount's attached to the windscreen, but I find the supplied disc works well on the dash of my Ford Ka:

The disc at a crazy angle on the dash looks a bit strange when the i3 isn't in use, but I can put up with that!

Ahhhh! So that's what that's for! Having worked in IT support I really must listen to my own advice and RTFM .....

It says 'permanent' though. Anyone sucessfully removed one without pulling our half the dash? I'd still rather a longer ball & socket mount ...

Ta anyway - I will check it out.

Yes. I stuck it to a vertical surface first, but kept knocking it when I used the indicator. Got it off by sliding a knife blade under it without too much trouble, but it was during the very hot weather. No damage to the car, but it screwed up the adhesive pad on the back of the disc. I phoned Garmin and received a free replacement from them the following day.

Don't think it'll soften it up if you have the hair-dryer on cool! Laughing

I bought one of these

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=34774&highlight=

and using part of a can holder made my own mount which hangs off one of the vents. Easily removed, further into the car so that sunlight does not affect it as much. Works well. The bolts to fit can be had from a small pack in halfords.

the nuvi mounts are a couple of inches longer and, in my opinion, actually have a morepowerful suction. you could try oneof them
