Hi all,
I saw this in pc world before and wondered if it could be used with the nuvi. It would allow you to play the " whatever" through your car radio.
It says it uses two AAA batteries but I can see a power cable in the background.
Would the connector fit on the nuvi headphone socket?
I thought you could set up one radio channel on your car stereo just for the satnav and then your directions would come over your car speakers as would your mp3 music.

Any views, oppinions?

i'm sure it will work..this transmitter should work with anything with a earphone output....but remember you wont be able to listen to the radio at the same time.. _________________ *************************** |

Hi zogs, thought it would be handy if travelling at speed or wind noise plus the handsfree would then work that way also and doesnt the nuvi play the mp3`s whilst navigating and cuts out when you are getting the voice directions? So you can listen to your music instead of the radio.

I've got something similar and it works a treat. Bear in mind that technically, I think they are illegal (being an FM transmitter), but loads of people use them for playing their iPods through the car radio. |

Hi all,
Just thought I would let you know I got one and it works, I have now got voice directions comming out of the car stereo + the mp3. I have also got it wired up to the ciggy lighter so will save on batteries. Will give it a proper go over the weekend.

I don't have any information as to when they will do this though. |

Here in the States we have no such legal issues with these wireless transmitters. Yikes!!! I didn't realize I was breaking the law when I used one with my MP3 player while driving through England last month...
In any case, even though this Belkin device does work quite nicely for me, the problem is that the farther I drive from home the better the odds that the radio frequency I was tuned to now becomes an "active" station. I can listen to my MP3 player for about 15 minutes before a real station suddenly bleeds on to that setting rendering my MP3 player's ability to play over the car stereo unlistenable. I'm sure the same thing will happen once I get my Nuvi 350. (just waiting for my next paycheck to order it). |

Ahh, no worries. As long as you don't try and blow up any planes with it on your way home you will be OK.

Yeah, I get that with my iTrip in the UK (it's almost unusable in London).
Technically these are all illegal in the UK but they have recognised that the law is an ass_ in this area and are looking at changing it....

One of these with signal activated transmission would be amazing (e.g. if there is no audio, it powers down). You could keep the power low enough that it only affected your car (or tap into the aerial connector). Then tune it to your favourite radio station. As soon as the Nuvi spoke, the stronger signal would black out the radio with the Nuvi sound yet your audio would return when the transmission stopped |

Yes, it would be great it it worked that way but it doesn't. In practice the signal from the transmitter is nowhere near strong enough to block out the multi kilowatt transmitters for the major stations (or even the pirate stations sometimes).
What would be good would be if the transmitter could do a TMC style interruption to your music to give you the voice directions.
To be honest though, I don't ever have the music so loud that I can't hear the GPS instructions and if I do miss the instruction then I just look at the screen.... _________________ Gone fishing! |

...on a similar theme, Jabra market a Bluetooth adapter (3.5mm jack) primarily for use with iPods and phones.
I would have thought that while it may not be possible to feed the Nuvi through the car stereo it could be played through a bluetooth earpiece/headphones. A bit of a compromise and may not be an ideal solution but it does keep things legal if that is an issue for you.
Not having mastered the finer points of adding links to posts the web site that you may find useful is www.mobilefun.co.uk the product: Jabra A120s Bluetooth Stereo Adapter |
