|

Good morning.
I was lucky enough to get one of the Aldi packages for Christmas and im just learning how it works and trying to get the best out of if, however, perhaps 7 out of 10 times that I connect it to my computer, it says something about usb malfunction and the only way I can make it connect is by pressing the reset button on the back.
Now I wondered if anyone else had had this problem and whether I should exchange the unit? I dont mind keep pressing the reset button, but it is a lot of money to make do with a substandard unit.
Thankyou for any help.
PS im really looking forward to Dave doing his review on this unit :D |

Hi Ann, unfortunately I won't be reviewing this bundle because I have a lot of reviews and back end server work I am currently working on, but Darren currently is putting the Aldi-Medion-Navigon package through the test and we should have a review ready shortly.
I'm not sure about the other problem, but I'll check to see if Darren has had any problems with this during the review. |

I certainly haven't seen any of these errors. It sounds like this is an Active Sync issue though, does this error appear when you dock the unit? _________________ Darren Griffin

ActiveSync sometimes does require a soft reset of the Pocket PC (which is what you describe) to work properly on any hardware - though I've no experience of the hardware you have, Ann.
One thing you could try is a different USB port on your computer - particularly if you've got one spare on the machine itself, rather than on a USB hub. Does that make the issue go away?

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies.
I have tried the dock on a usb port on a different computer and I had the same problems. It does seem to work fine after the soft reset. Yes this malfunction error only comes on as I put the already docked ppc into the usb port. Its not a huge problem, however I bought two ppc's from aldi and the other one is fine so I may take mine back and see if I get better luck.
Im really impressed with the medion, its far superior to the integrated sat nav system in a peugout! However it didnt know about the new Birmingham relief toll road and it thought I was driving through a field!
Really looking forward to reading your review Darren! :D
Thanks again

Have you considered a hard reset to resolve this error before taking it back? It's a simple process and re-installing the software from the SD card would only take a few minutes? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren and thanks for the quick reply!
No I hadnt considered a hard reset because I assumed it must be a hardware fault. You are right though, its probably worth a shot. Damn I knew I shouldnt have spent three nights personalising it |

It could be a hardware fault but as it works after a soft reset it suggests a software issue to me. Go for a hard reset, don't install anything and test the sync process. If all is then well install apps one at a time and test syncing after each to identify the culprit. Any probs just shout _________________ Darren Griffin |
