Cinema POI

Hi I'm a newbie and have just bought IPAQ TT2 bluetooth package - very impressed!

I have been adding POI files using this websites POI sync. A comprehensive set of files but I'm after a few more:

I work in the Cinema industry visiting cinemas from all the various chains. So far in Pocket GP POI files I can find 'Vue Cinemas' and 'UCI Cinemas' but no others.

Other major chains that I can think of are Odeon, UGC, Cineworld, Ster Century and Showcase. Are there plans to add these or is there somewhere else that I can download these POI files

All these POI files were created and contributed by readers. Assuming you know the locations why not create the POI files yourself? If you then email them to us we'll happily make them available for other users Smile

Hello Darren

I'm just starting out but once I get the hang of it I'll gladly give it a go.

In the mean time I have the full addresses of 3 of the chains that I mentioned, Cineworld, Odeon and Ster Century; so if any one would like them for POI purposes, give me a shout.

Hi Matt,

I submitted the Vue Cinema and UCI Cinema POI's a while ago and have plans to work on POI listings for all the cinema chains, including Odeon and Cineworld, as you mentioned.

So if you would like to send me the full addresses that you have, that would be a major help and would allow me to create them sometime in the near future.

It would be helpful if the addresses contain either the full postcode of the cinema or the longitude and latitude or the OS grid reference.

When I'm back in the office I'll arange the data. Unfortunately for two of the mentioned chains I do not have an electronic copy. Perhaps you could give a postal address off list so I can send photo copies?

Hi Matt,

Do you by any chance have access to a scanner with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities?

If you did, you could scan the information into your PC and it would be converted into a Word (or similar) document, which you could then email to me.

Good thinking! The scanner doesn't have OCR (translates to "I haven't bothered setting it up!") but I could scan the pages as .jpeg images and send those over.

I should be in the office next week so time permitting I'll try to sort it.

I have my boyfriend to thank for that good idea (the scanner) - he's the brains of the operation where computers are concerned! Mr. Green

I should be able to work from .jpeg images just fine, so as soon as I have the information (time permitting as well Wink

) I'll get right on to creating the POI files.

I will then send them to this website and they should soon get posted on the POI page. If you are not a regular visitor to the forum, I can send you a PM to let you know when they are available for download.

Thanks again for the offer of the lists, as trawling the internet for full addresses of any company/premisies can be very time-consuming. Having the information right in front of me will make the whole process a lot easier! Thumbs Up

Thanks again for your offer, it'll certainly make my life easier having the Cinemas as POI rather than manually entering addresses each time.
