|

i have recently backed up my city navigator nt origanal card to a bought 512 kingston micro sd card.
i have read in forums that this can't be done but i have done it
i just want to know if i will get shouted at should i post how to do this!
and which is the best forum to post it on as i believe if you are paying good money for a map you should at least be able to make a backup and use it on a new card should you loose the origanal even tho i believe garmin will send you another foc but these micro sd cards are so small and if you are like me (always loosing things) (can't even find my gps unit somedays )let alone something as small as microsd card(i wonder how many they would send you before billing you). |

Yes it is possible to back up your garmin supplied card.
However, you can only restore it back to the original card.
If you write to another card it wont work in the garmin unit as theres some code written on the image that matches card with unit.
If you have found a way then please share. |

The maps are unlocked to a specific unit [or two in my case].
If you 'copy' the maps to a new SD card, then the same maps will be unlocked to the same unit. I doubt that they will work in another unit!
If however you are using MetroGuide, then copying a SD card is possible and it will work in any unit!
If you have achieved what you believe you have achieved THEN..............!!! |

At this moment, on another forum, the same question was posed and answered. A husband with a legitimate SD card, copied the card for his wife's identical unit -- no way will it work!! The maps are unit specific! |

i have acquired a spare i3 card with uk maps on it and it works fine in my i3, so if this chappy has worked out a way of doing what he says then in theory the copied cars will work in another unit. _________________ *************************** |

If what Strumble says is true, which I have no reason to question, then what elraco1 wrote can not be correct, and therefore not in breach of copyright, so come on elraco1 spill the beans :D |

request
anyone who has a map that is locked to their machine (pref i3) and who has the software to make a small map of somewhere ie a couple of tiles in russia
or italy (smaller the better for download)and send it to me through a link i will try and back it up to see if it works on my i3 if it doesn't then that gets rid of the copyright claims and then i can put info out on how to back your original up to a new card(well the way i did it anyway) i await your response |
