Hi to all.
Has anyone been brave enough to edit the voice files on a 510/710 and get it working?
I have tried to edit the 'route recalculation' command cos it drives me nuts. (That's the one bit TT got right! Silence on route recalculation).
I have used 4 different .ogg editors now and every time I reinstall the modified voice file the Mio locks up.
Here's what I'm doing.
After unzipping, I recorded 2 seconds of silence and replaced the original 'recalc' file with the new one, but renamed 'recalc'.
Rezipped the 4 files and transferred to Mio as usual via BT.
When transfer is complete I get a lock up every time, guaranteed.
I have seen elsewhere on these forums that people using iGo software on PDA's are having success in modifying their voice files. I thought the Mio would be the same, but obviously not.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi CeeJay,
I also tried to do the same thing as you via bluetooth, but with no luck.
Then I copied the content of the install folder on the included dvd to the computer and removed the recalc.ogg file and the lost gps signal.ogg from the zip file. Then I reinstalled the whole application from the folder on my computer instead of using the dvd and now it's working like a charm without these irritating sounds.
Remember to do a backup of your settings to a memory card before reinstalling, if not you will lose all your settings from before.
You also have to transfer all the maps back onto your unit, but this you can do from the dvd.
Good luck!!! |

Hi Buddysaab.
Thanks for that.
I'll definitely give that a try when I get a spare minute (or two).
Sounds like just what I need for the route recalculation file.
I don't think I'll bother removing the 'GPS signal lost' file, as mine has never dropped a signal once it has acquired one, I only get that message when turning it on indoors, so that's not a problem for me.
Many thanks Buddysaab. You've just saved my sanity :D

Hi to Buddysaab again.
You're the man.
Just tried this and it works a treat.
For some reason I didn't have to reinstall maps which was a blessing, cos last time I did it took about an hour & twenty minutes using v1.2 BT to install all of Europe.
Slightly off topic but at the same time I managed to tweak the roundabout command to give me the exit to take at 300 metres instead of the usual 100 metres.
As most of my driving is in town that should be more than adequate.
Coupled with the fact that POI warner is going to support the Mio
Now I'm one extremely happy bunny. :D
Once again thanks for your help.
