Hi - apologies if this is out of place in this Forum.
I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 310 with a FM Trafficmaster receiver. The latter comes with a lifetime subscription and effectively cost £100. It should enable life traffic alerts whereever i am (according to Trafficmaster). According to Garmin, though, the system is only effective on Motorways. I have driven a couple of hundred miles on A and B roads around Oxfordshire and NEVER picked up a signal. I have played around with the aerial position in the car but to no avail. Any advice or experiences welcome. JJD

I've never had great success when evaluating TMC systems because of the low signal levels. Those who have had better results have either been in close proximity to the Classic FM transmitters or have sonnected an external aerial to feed the FM signal.

I think it is possible to feed the Garmin TMC receiver with the signal from your car aerial?

I also drive around Oxfordshire and find the TMC reception to be quite patchy. For example no data signal received when 3 miles from M40, within 2-3 miles of getting on M40 reception is OK.
This may be due to the fact that there are less line of site obstructions, etc on the motorway however much more likely is the fact that there have been widespread reports of poor consistency of reception with the GM12 and Nuvi (see threads on Garmin Street Pilot/Nuvi forum on this site) So I don't think Oxfordshire is any better/worse than anywhere else in the country.
Having spoken to their technical helpdesk I know Garmin are aware of the issue and should hopefully becoming up with a fix, either software or hardware, soon.

Finally, unless you want to strip some of the outer plastic and wrap the inner wire of the GM12 TMC receiver around the car aerial there's no way of feeding it with a signal. And I don't think that's an acceptable option on a piece of kit that costs well over £100.
