I have just purchased the TomTom Go 510 for my HGV driving father.
What do I do now?
How do I get the Speed Camera database?
How do I get the Bridge POI file?
How do I gwt any other HGV related POI?
Do I need to download anything to help me get the aforementioned POIs?
I undersatnd it will cost me for the Speed Cameras.
Please advise what I need do next.... |

Click on the link to the Camera Help Guide in the left-hand column of this page.
There's lots of information about POIs, including bridges, in various threads. Use the 'Search' button at the top of the page to find them, or browse the TomTom Go / Rider / One forum. _________________ Anita

www.lowbridges.com seem to have most of the bridges covered from 6'6" upto 16'6"...they charge you for the service & email free updates to you.
They give you full examples & instructions on how to download the info to your Navman once you have paid them. |

i just looked at the willow house info & they have all the bridges grouped together from 9' upto 16' in 1 CSV file, so if you downloaded the 16' CSV file it would hold all the bridges together.
on the lowbridges.com site they are split in to catergories of hieght individually.
Upto you how you want the files....but at the end of the day they both warn of low bridges. |

Is that really a suitable device for an HGV? IME the routes that the TomTom calculates can often be most unsuitable for HGVs. I've seen huge trucks get stuck down little country lanes because the driver's been trying to use a GPS that was designed for cars or bikes... |

tomtom's routing is no better and no worse than any other navigation provider.
Usually people get stuck because they haven't set the unit up in planning preferences or they have just followed it blindly and not checked to route
currently there is nothing in europe that caters speificaly for HGV's even gamins produce similar routes to tomtom as does copilot with the new patch and set up correctly
i currently use tomtom as a benchmark when testing other satnav equipment
also it depend what you mean by huge truck a large 7.5 tonne truck can look like an 18 tonner to the untrained eye _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Well after much deliberation, many different points of view and no one really outstanding choice I/he decided to go for the TomTom over the Mio.
I do have some reservations about the build quality of the mount etc and seeing how many have gone back but my f-i-l was always leaning towards the TT before I had even started really looking.
If the TT plays up I will go for his second choice the Mio 710.
Unless of course someone on here can give me a more suitable alternative.... |

I think the 510 is a great choice. They sem to have worked the mount problem, and most of us know what kind of quality device this is.
Good luck. |
