I’m thinking of getting the Mio P350 PDA (from the UK) and need some advice regarding Tomtom maps.
I’ll be using the unit in Europe, so I’ll need Navigator 5 Western Europe (inc UK), but I also want to use the unit in the USA this year and Canada next year. What is the best option for me? Shelling out £130 each for USA and Europe seems a bit steep.
I did think about getting the maps from ebay, but at £20 for the whole world they must be dodgy. I like cheap, but I don’t want to run the risk of getting all the way to the USA and my map not working. I’ve also seen a good deal on Semsons (http://www.semsons.com/tona5glfpopc.html) that sells Global maps for $299. Is this a good deal?
As I understand it, if you buy the CD’s then you activate the map, and then download the required country from the laptop to a SD card, but I won’t be taking my laptop to the USA. Am I better off buying the USA/Canada and Western Europe on individual SD cards.
Thank you in advance. |

yes, individual SD cards make more sense (you still need to back them up in case they go belly up). Semsons offers the US/Canada maps including 1 GB SD card for 149$ - what more do you want... _________________ Lutz

Thanks Lutz.
I'm having difficulty sourcing USA/Canada and W/Europe on SD card, and I'm a bit unsure of the exact procedure for downloading and activating maps.
If I buy the Global package on CD how do I download and use the maps.
When I'm home in the UK I guess I just download the UK map from my PC or the TT CD on to an SD card. But what would I do for the USA map?
Can I download it to the SD card before I leave the UK? If I do will it work OK when I get to the USA? |

Yes, you should download it before you board the plane. You can also test it - as long as you can see the map it will work fine. You don't need to have a GPS position for testing. _________________ Lutz
