some newer i3's come with the mapping loaded internally, older models have the mapping on a card..they do the same job....to see what areas yours cover , select the map and zoom out..you will see 'boxes' showing the regions covered...

as you zoom out you will see 'boxes' which encompass the maps which have street level mapping...the i3's with cards have the uk and a small part of northern france included and only show major roads in europe....

Hi bennnneb

My i3 has the card already in the slot (its removable) and the maps are installed on it. I've confirmed with Garmin and I have UK & Ireland and part of Northern France.

ISP - Is it just the maps installed on the card? I just got one of these but as yet have no reader, so can't see what's on the card.

D'you think that if I buy a blank card I could use other maps?

I got mine from comet, didnt get any card with it as the maps were preinstalled (which is silly in my opinion).

think if you wanted to travel to france..you travel through the uk using the pre-installed uk maps then change to the france map on the card when you cross the channel .....

mk-graham - I took the card out of the unit and it would not work so I guess the maps are on the card. I also have to get a reader. I'm new to this so I need to find out if I can copy the card to a bigger one.

if you got a card with your i3 then the mapping is on the card...you cannot copy the i3 card maps onto another card theres some kind of security embedded on the card...you can copy the maps to your pc for backup but the maps can only be re-loaded onto the original card..

Had a look in my local [s]Dixons[/s]Comet (on Oxford Street), but they didn't seem to sell the i3 at all (although the guy I spoke to wasn't very informative - he did little more than grunt and shrug when I asked...). Best price I found up Tottenham Court Road was £129.99.

Have Comet been periodically selling the i3 at £99?
