For some unknown reason my standard voices in TT5 keep disappearing. I can use the unit one day and it is working fine, use it the following day and all works normally except there are no standard voices. I have to restore from my last good backup or re-install the voices from CD. If I try to change a voice or a volume preference I get the message “you have not selected a usable voice” This has happened to me about a dozen times now.
Also, at intermittent times when starting TT I get a green legal screen which I have to affirm and then I have to select the map I want to use.
Anyone any ideas as to why these things are happening? _________________ Alan

Following on from my last post, if I attempt to re-install the voice from CD the installer tells me that the voice is already installed and do i wish to re-install. If I select yes then the voice installs and works normally. _________________ Alan
Not sure if this is your problem but I used to have this issue and I discovered that I had file cleaning program on my PC which deletes unneccessary files. The voice files are held in files with suffix .chk and .vif. If the IPAQ was left in the cradle while the cleaner was running the .chk files were being deleted as leftover files from disk checking programs. When re installing, the installer sees the .vif files and thinks the voices are still installed. Just go ahead and reinstall.

You may have just hit the nail on the head there. I clean my desktop out on a regular basis and of course .chk would be one of the file types that would be deleted. Taking this one step further and presuming that the Ipaq is sync'd. If the .chk files had been removed from the desktop then this would be the latest version of the file( even though its not there) and so activesync would delete the .chk files from the pocket pc on the nest synchronisation. So that may well be the reason. Thanks _________________ Alan
