So I inadvertantly managed to crash my i3 this morning - in a way I've not previously seen - and it did crash, and powered off immediately.

I was stopped, and had actually finished my journey, but for some reason (it does normally) my i3 hadn't realised I had reached my destination - it normally gets it, but there must have been some slight difference in position, from the end point saved.

So I went to the menu to click on stop navigation, but accidentally hit detour instead. It just crashed immediately, and powered off (it was currently running on ciggy lead power).

Just something of an oddity, never happened to me previously. I'm currently running v3.10 firmware, v8 maps, safety camera database loaded (tweaked using cbrom's utility, for always on, with custom alert timings / distances), and customised audio.

I did exactly the same yesterday although mine didn't power down, it just locked up. I had to remove and replace batteries to fix it. It has never happened to me before either but I suspect I have never pressed detour in those circumstances. Firmware is 3.1.

Just as something of a follow-up, this is repeatable - I did it again this morning - deliberately - to see if it would happen, and yes it does.

I've got to the stage where i'm just about ready to chuck my i3 to a place where it will never get a singal again. ever.

I don't know why it is (and Garmin Tech Support has been pretty poor), but my i3 will crash at roundabouts. It wont do it everytime, and it wont not do it either, but regularly at least once per trip it will lock up.

Basically you approach the roundabout and the "distance to" box in the bottom right hand side will count down. At some point it reachs "0 ft" and it should then move on to the next countdown, but no. It stops. ceases to be. it is an ex-parrot.

I click back , and the signal strength is there, but although you can scroll and select the menu items they will actually do nothing. It's a reboot that's required to get it going again - not the sort of thing you want to be doing whilst driving!

I contacted Garmin who said "tak it back and get a replacement". I did, and as suspected (because the replacement will have the same software) it crashed again.

I'm on software version 3.0

Anyone had something similar? because two units in i'm getting really peed off with it.

Had the same sort of thing using my 13.
It powered off and was dead, despite running on car power the batteries had died to much. Stoppped at a garage put new sooper dooper Everready's in and away it went like new!
So check that your batteries were not running on low as the units don't seem to run without having sufficient battery back up power.

Thanks for the link to V2.7

Oddly enough (and touching wood) the unit has behaved itself for two journeys now.

So the experiment continues - now we try journeys with the map detail set to "most".

and then we go the whole hog and install the speed cameras......hahahaha!!

Will let you know how I get on!

As for the trying fresh batteries thing - well yep I did that too and not a blind bit of difference, although oddly enough I also went for Everreadys!

...and guess what...it's crashing at the same two roundabouts again.

doh!

getting fed up with this.

It's not a "lost satellite" thing, it just hangs when it gets to two specific roundabouts.

Anyone else out there with the same problem?

Might not be of any help at all, but similar problems are discussed here:

Are the roundabouts near an airfield?

What ho!

Nope - nowhere near an airfield.

And I notice you're in East SUssex - this could be perfect, as the two roundabouts it always fails on is the one outside the East Sussex National Golf Course Just outside Uckfield on the A22, and the Hailsham Bypass Roundabout where the A22 joins the A295.

Dunno whereabouts in East Sussex you are, but if you ever go near them let me know how you get on, becuase Garmin are all but saying "not our problem", so if someone else can replicate it that'd be great.

As an aside, the darn thing failed on the boship roundabout this morning.

I'm between Rye and Hastings, but occasionally have to on the A22 to where it joins the A26 to go to our office at Plashett Wood (south of Uckfield), so pass the Golf Course and the Boship roundabout, though not the Hailsham one.

Unfortunately I'm often in someone else's vehicle, but next time I go in my own car I'll let you know what happens.
