|
|
I've installed the CP live 6 software onto my Treo 700W via the preloaded 1GB card. Everything seems to have gone correctly, but in the Quick Start guide (step 3. Product Key Entry and Activation) it says "The first time you launch CoPilot on your device you will be prompted for you Product Key." - but I can seem to "launch" CoPilot. Shouldn't there be an icon for CP in my programs menu? There are no new icons. When I go to "File Explorer" and search my storage card I can find the copilot.ppc2003cab and copilot.wm5ppc.cab files. Wouldn't that mean CP is installed? How do I run the program? |

please be aware that the Treo is not a smartphone. It is a Pocket PC phone. you need to tap on the copilot.wm5ppc.cab . _________________ Lutz

I don't know what the difference is between a Pocket PC and a smartphone - and don't really care, but in regards to this forum, thanks for letting me know. I do know that Palm (at their site) has the Treo 700w listed as a "smartphone"(?) I dunno...
Is there another thread here that might be of more use to me (using the Treo 700w)?
Since I have both files loaded on my phone (copilot.ppc2003cab and copilot.wm5ppc.cab) would it do me any good to get rid of copilot.ppc2003cab?
ALSO - I just went to the ALK (CoPilot) website and see they have a version specific to the Treo 700w. Why they sold me the Pocket PC version over the phone I don't understand. I guess I'll find out on Monday - way to stick to business hours ALK...*%$#@!!! |

I tapped the copilot.wm5ppc.cab file, but still nothing. No way to launch (that I can figure). No icon in my programs menu. Wrong software? |

... because Palm are stupid. But all the carriers are no better. They also call all kinds of Pocket PCs "smartphones" just because it is en vogue.
The difference between a Pocket PC and a Smartphone is that the former one has a stylus and touch screen and the latter has none of these, but tends to have much more keys. The usage paradigm is entirely different. Smartphones are designed for one-hand usage, Pocket PCs are not.
Anyhow. what happens when you tap the CAB file? Do you get a WM5 warning about software from an unknown source and if you want to install it? _________________ Lutz

Ahh. Now I understand. Well, that's my one thing (learned) for the day. I'm out...
When I tap the wm5ppc.cab file it downloads the file, asks me a location to install "CoPilot Pocket PC" (I choose "storage card" then "install"), then it restarts my phone to "complete the installation". The phone restarts but I can't see where there's anything different once it has restarted (no icons, nothing about CoPilot that I can find - other than the "read only" files stored on the storage card). |

can you try to allow it to install to "main" memory? (Even though this term is misleading in WM5) _________________ Lutz

I could try that, but ALK suggests the storage card since the Treo's memory is limited. |
