I used to live in Oxfordshire, and the road between Burford & Cheltenham was absolutely infested with cameras. One morning I drove the road as usual - and every camera except one was at a 45 degree angle, pointing at the sky! The one exception was in many mangled pieces on the floor. It looked as if some HGV driver finally had enough.
The interesting thing is that up to the time I left Oxford, the cameras had not been replaced, many months after, so it looks as if direct action sometimes works! |

There's one near(ish) me that one day seemed to mysteriously catch fire. It's been there for years.
It's since been removed and not replaced, been a few months now. |

The Burford to Cheltenham road is the A40. I remember driving the A40 in August 2001 (i.e. nearly five years ago) and finding that all the cameras had been "customised".

I drove part of that route a fortnight ago, and the cameras had still not reappeared.

I think this is probably the only valid justification for having those dangerous bullbars on the front of your vehicle. _________________ Gone fishing! |

The only problem of having less fixed cameras is more mobile ones. |

As I live in Hitchin and work in Bar Hill the A505 and the A10 fixed cameras have been replaced with the mobile van parked about a mile or more from them, sometimes as early as 6am. There is no point reporting these mobile positions as they are quite flexible. Well done the vandals who did it. :x |

I'm in my truck, so can't exceed the speed limit on that stretch anyway... normally on that stretch at 5am I also reported the camera this week that never appeared, the one just before you get to Baldock before the start of the bypass which never seemed to show up that has been there for age's..
Know what you mean about the mobiles, they have a sneaky van with a rooftop camera that clock's registrations in Stevenage as I got pulled for my vehical being flagged as having tachograph infringements, but as my truck is used in the afternnoons by another driver not me officer!! _________________ Regards Steve :-) |
