|

A simple question, how much space do the maps etc need for the UK? I see places quoting 96 megs of space required, which makes them useless as I have 64 megs built in, and cannot extend this as the GPS would take up the slot.
Can you choose to download specific areas in greater detail? eg. a medium res map of the uk and a hi res street level map on london for example?
I dont want to waste £150 only to find out its not possible to actually store any maps! |

you can have smaller maps as well (TomTOm for example offers 16MB and 32MB chunkc) but then you obviously cannot route through the whole country. You may want to think about getting a GPS that does not block the slot... _________________ Lutz

Such as? There is no bluetooth, thus there is no possible way to connect it other than via the CF slot. I was hoping some of the gps cards would have a pass-through cf slow, but no such luck. Ive now ordered the low power pretec one, although it doesnt track as many sats as the others, its smaller, cheaper, doesnt stickout horribly and from all the reviews, the loss of a few sats doesnt make a huge difference.
This is more of a toy than for serious commercial use to be honest. |

What PDA do you have? It must have a serial port, or? _________________ Lutz

Asus Mypal A620 (non bluetooth version)
Well, its all ordered now, so I don't have much choice ;-) She can always use the pcmcia card adaptor on her laptop to make use of more detailed maps I guess. Maybe. |

you'll have to cut smaller maps for her then - about 30MB max... that should work if she's not driving long distances all the time. _________________ Lutz
