TomTom's Method of Covering Up....

If it does like what my GO700 does, if it's in the mount and loses power, it will simply display the splash screen and then shut down. You won't get a chance to bypass the feature. What the fix does is simply remove this "feature" so that it doesn't shut off no matter what happens with the lousey mount. Someone who actually owns a X10 model can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

The interesting part to me is that if I'm using my GO700 in the mount, and I remove it from the mount without turning it off, it doesn't automatically shut off. So there's obviously a mount sensor type of thing going on so it knows that it's still in the mount, but is no longer receiving external power, so it's time to shut down. The X10's must really be bouncing out of that mount if they have the same type of design. It's not a matter of they're losing contact with one or two pins due to a jiggle -- they must be losing contact with most (if not all) of the pins in the mount plug.

Just curious, wouldn't this still be an issue with people who have external sources/devices (audio out, ipod connection) connected to the mount because the unit needs to pass data to the mount when the external source/device is used?

Well I took my 510 back to Halfords yesterday. I've tried to get on with the unit for 6 weeks now, but eventually I've given up.

- Bluetooth handsfree not working properly
- Vibrating screen mount with droop
- Faulty power connection
- Useless HOME software

The manager at Halfords knew I wasn't the only x10 user having problems and even admitted that he hadn't been supplied with any new stock recently. This sounds to me like somebody at Halfords head office is having a major headache with returns. Maybe they’ve sent them all back to TomTom?

I was able to downgrade to a GO 500 with the £50 difference in price being refunded. I tested the handsfree function straight away and it works flawlessly.

I’ve read some postings about people having difficulty with Halfords but must say in their defence that the Keighley manger was perfectly agreeable. I stuck with my handsfree Bluetooth complaint. It doesn’t work – it’s not fit for purpose and it’s not as described.

I`m not asking anyone to remove the gromit as it is there for a purpose.
I`m sure that its there simply to prevent the unit bouncing around, I think those boffins at TT forgot to road test it!

It seems like TT, have cornered the market now, and attention has turned to bottom line rather than product quality.
