For those that are interested Navman have just released a service pack for the 530. You can update via Smart ST desktop. Can't find any info on what it fixes but if anyone else does please post. |

Can anyone tell me how to install this service pack on the icn530? How would I know if it is already installed? The installation process is not clear.
Thanks,
Bruce |

Hi Bruce
I have loaded Service Pack 1 to my iCN530 but I agree with you it is not by any means an intuitive process.
Firstly, when I started the SmartST for iCN 530 software on my PC, I followed 'Setup/Update Software/Check for updates on the web'. This opens a browser window onto the Navman site and there is a drop down box from which you choose your Navman model. The only problem was that it did not have the Navman iCN530 listed! This now may have changed but I have not checked.
So instead I went directly to the Navman site and found the Software Updates page and from there chose the link 'Click here for the update program for all Navmans except SmartST Professional v1.91'. From there I followed the prompts and downloaded and then installed the software. I assumed the software installed correctly because it added a new desktop icon - 'Baseman for iCN530 i3_95_1_4' and this is the first point listed in the SmartST for iCN 530 Service Pack 1 notes (See link in my earlier post)
After installation I re-started the SmartST for iCN 530 software on my PC, and I followed 'Setup/Update Software/Update software on iCN'. This update process displays a dialogue box showing that the software is being updated. after installation, I did notice that it put some of my preferences back to the defaults, but this and the dialogue box display was the only way I could see that the upgrade had taken place. But then I had an idea!! the sixth point listed in the SmartST for iCN 530 Service Pack 1 notes is - 'OK' button on Low Battery pop-up'. So I let the battery run down and now when the warning message is displayed there is indeed an "OK" button shown, (see page 53 of the user manual for theoriginal screen without the OK button).
So Bruce, I assume that I have loaded correctly but I have not yet noticed many practical differences. Of course all Navman need to do on the iCN530 unit itself, under 'Preference/More Preferences/About', is simply display a clear and obvious history of updates/revisions/dates etc made by the owner.........too simple?!?
Oh, and just to confuse things in regard to the upgrade download and installation, my son had to install twice before the install actually installed!!
Sorry if this is too wordy but hope it helps.

Thanks for this Keith. One last thing. Can you please tell me what version number of Smart ST it now says you have on the device? The version number should be the latest one if SP1 has been added. It would be helpful if the navman website told you what version the update is!
Regards,
Bruce |

After it installs and updates yout SmartST desktop s/w plug up your icn 530 and then run the desktop s/w and it should auto detect the icn530 and ask to update your device.
If you go to the "about" screen it'll tell you that the build date is 2006-05-26 (I think). My old build date was 2006-04-something. _________________ TTG 720

Its all very fine updating to SP1, but now where I can find what this SP does. There is nothing on the Navman web regarding what it fixes or changes!!!..... I'm in the software business and when SP's are released I want to know whats going to change or do to the application/hardware, before I decide to update.
I'll persu it with navman support, if I find anything out I'll feed it back. |

Being a 'newbie, in the Navman world (just purchased iCN530) it is very comforting to see that others have had the same difficulties updating with the latest service release, as I have. I'm still not sure it's done and I don't normally consider myself computer illiterate !!
I think there is a strong case for Navman to simplify their update process. Anyway I'm still VERY pleased with my purchase and it's great to find a forum like this for help. :D |

Thanks again for a very complete answer. I have the same as you, so SP1 must be installed! Not easy to tell, though!
