So when you know where you are going and it gives a stupid route just ignore it. That's fine.
The problem arises when you don't know where you are going, it will still generate stupid routes, but since you don't know they are stupid then you end up following them and going miles out of your way down narrow unclassified roads.
TomTom must generate many more stupid routes than we realise since we don't have the local knowledge for the area. So in fact the situation is far worse than it seems.

The post about TomTom having the wit to develop more routing options or even improve the routing, is missing the point. As in my earlier post TomTom did have all this functionallity and it worked, but for some business reason decided to remove it. The bottom line is that generic routing will please some users, but upset others, so the best option is to give customers the ability to change the road settings to their liking.
My father whos' retired, hates driving on motroways and prefers country roads, whereas I prefer motorways just one example of why TomTom must improve the situation. |

fair point, same issue as why did they change the x00 mounts, which worked, for ones that patently dont on the x10 series?

The Tomtom is a navigational aid, not a bible for navigating!
Too many drivers are now relying on their sat nav to take them from A to B without a glitch.
How many time have you heard, "It took me under a low bridge", or "It took me down a narrow road".
Low bridges ( OV2 add ons available )
Narrow roads ( TomTom will never get that one right )
Dead ends ( blame the council for that )
These devices are not the most brainy things in the world.
When you buy your sat nav, and if you are clever enough you`ll back it up, then why don`t you backup your route with an up-to-date A to Z paper map.
I`ve owned
TT300
TT500
TT700 (second edition )
Now the 910
The 910 is by far the best, but like the rest,it will only do what YOU tell it to do. |

Guys
Could not disagree with you more.
The solution is simple if TT wants to do it, all they need to add is excludes all other routes except Motorways, A & B roads. |

Just a thought.
If you have a Plus map, of, say, France, could you use that to navigate to close to where you are going in UK, (since this would only include major roads in the UK), and then change to the UK map for the final bit? I've got the 700, so can't test the theory. |

This must be a simplification just to make TomTom more user-friendly. I can't understand why the didn't hide the options so you could select advanced-navigation (or something) and then customize the routing. |
